CIP KoAs advice

This is my 1st serious attempt at playing a stealth type character. I'd just like a little advice on where to put my skills at this point as I keep wanting to treat him as a melee type out of reflex. Am I making a mistake to branch off into conjurations? Also I had wanted to stay with blowguns and throwing, but the dungeon wasn't giving me the needles I needed. Was going into crossbows a mistake? This guy is doing quite well so far, my stealth dudes usually splat before Lair.

PS, it isn't in the dump below but is a chain mail with +9 dex worth -4 slay?

chain mail with +9 dex and -4 slay is terrible as most of you damage with a qblade comes from slay and chain will kill your EV. That hat is terrible as MR is the most important resistance. Brnaching into conjurations is a seriouse mistake as they are redundant with ranged combat. Training shields and crossbows is a terrible idea. Crossbow damage sucks compared to throwing tomahawks and tomahawks let you use a shield and even equip a resistance stick/stat boosting stick.

Stop training conjurations, it is redundant with your other skills like throwing. Same for crossbows. you already have enough short blades, stop training that. Shields should be trained until you remove the penalty, then stop. You probably have enough dodging for now. YOu also have enough invo for now, you have spread your exp way to thin and can't afford to dump most exp into invo. Your main priorities at this point should be getting fighting up for more HP and training up throwing. Throwing lets you disable foes with the right needles and it also lets you kill resistant stuff very quickly with tomahawks. Throwing nets are also a great way to set up stabs. You probably want 22 throwing eventauly as oka boosts your throwing to 27 from there and throwing is very skill dependant like UC. Unlike (formless clawless) UC, throwing actualy does OP damage.

TLDR; turn everything off except shields until you remove penalty (5.7 I think), then train fighting /throwing. Ditch the hat.

1) It's decision time! You need to decide whether you're going for a melee approach or a stabber approach. Don't try and do both or you will end up as neither!

Melee approach (which might be preferable as you're an Oka worshipper): Push strength and gradually switch to meleeing with long blades (you're very dex-based, so I'd push for a demon blade / double sword at min weapon delay plus a decent shield with 15 Sh skill), and maybe get QSDA / FDA / IDA / PDA / ShadowDA quite a lot later on when your str is higher (maybe wear some str boosting gear) and you've had time to push armour up to about 15 or so. Your dex is so high that the drop in EV won't be a killer.

Stabber approach: push int and train hexes (which you have a terrific aptitude for), stick with the MDA, and use your conjurations (maybe with earth magic) to kill magic resistant enemies. Note that Heroism boosts your stealth, so it's actually pretty good for sneaking up (just make sure you invoke it out of LOS of your target).

2) Unequip that hat, but hang onto it just in case you desperately need rCorr: +7 int is absolutely not worth having for no MR and 10 SP, especially at your point in the game with Elrocha waiting round the next corner to banish you.

3) Don't even think about wearing that chain mail. it will kill your stealth and your EV, and you'll have to pump a ton of xp into armour (which you have a poor aptitude for) to compensate. The -4 slaying bonus and your 9 strength with such a high EV penalty armour kill your offence, too. Much better to stick with the MDA until your strength is higher (if you go down the melee route), or just indefinitely (if you go down the stabber route)

4) On the subject of Oka - probably better to go with Dith / Makh / Kiku in the future for a Vampire stabber.

5) Vampires have poor aptitudes for ranged attacks, and you'll want to use a shield if you're sticking with a one-handed, dex-based short blade / long blade, so bows / xbows are out (apart from hand crossbows, which aren't that great). If you want a ranged attack, I'd stick with throwing up to about 13 or so, mainly because they're good for stabs and you don't need to spend a turn switching weapons. Then take it from there - you may want more, or if you've found a hex book, you may want not to bother.

+1 to dazzling spray. That spell is godly with a stabber and it will help a lot in orc as well as other places, since I don't think it's MR dependent.

Okawaru gives you gifts and god wrath probably isn't on your plate atm, so I wouldn't bother switching. It's not like your stealth isn't good enough to stab pretty much everything in the game, at least at this point. I wonder how much Stealth and Short Blades you need to one-shot TRJ...

I believe Dith straight up doubles it, though, so that would help you sneak up on massive armies and just go stabbing. Still not a change I would make atm though.

You really do not need +7 Int at the moment. Especially not with -MR.

Even without any other hex spells, it is worth training hexes for those two spells, not a *lot* of hexes mind you, but all skills are super cheap at the outset, training 3-5 points would get those spells in better shape for minimal cost, and those two spells have a lot of utility for this type of build.

Not for the moment, no, but it'll add some power to those spells, and by the time you've cleared orc / dungeon to 15 and lair, you'll have more than likely picked up some more hex books.

Don't count on getting items that you don't have unless your god is going to gift them.
Siegurt's advice of training a little bit of hexes for cheap is good though.

D'oh! :oops: - just realised we're talking about a Kobold here - I thought it was a Vampire, for some crazy reason! Probably 'cos I'm playing a VpAs at the moment.

Disregard my earlier advice about long blades / medium armour. Definitely get some slings - Kobolds have a great aptitude and they work well with a shield / high dex.

What siegurt / ydeve said about hexes - just get a bit (maybe 5 or so), then push int and hexes if you happen to get a decent spellbook.
