Hi

I've been universally terrible every time I've played a mage, but I feel this one has real potential. I'd appreciate any advice on development...

mostly i'm hitting popcorn with the mace or dagger, using poisoned stones to soften up ogres/hippogriffs/uniques, using ozocobus armour at any sign of danger, ice beasts when fighting something really dangerous and freeze (whilst holding mace of protection) as my main weapon (especially as I've acquired berserkitis).

I seem to have everything switched on and probably should be more focuses

Shall I try and learn statue form? I feel I should have encorselled hibernation and maybe condensation shield. Casters are hard, there's so many useful options, but after a fight with a large orc band recently I can also see how vulnerable they can be...

walking around with fire/ice vulnerabilities is generally a bad idea. Statue form would not be a good fit as it slows the rate at which you cast and requires a huge inventment for this part of the game.

Hmmm I'm a bit torn now having made it alive to lair 5. So far I haven't trained weapons at all and have been using magic (ice beasts and freeze mostly) and mace of protection to take things down. Also using a buckler for added protection. I have an us enchanted glaive which given merfolk pole arm ability I feel I should train. I can replace my buckler with condensation shield but would lose the 5ac from the mace. I think freeze and ice beasts might struggle against death yaks. I also have berserkitis which has kept me away from melee..
