I think this is the most surprising death I've ever had. I thought I was completely safe, pressed tab, and died.

It's rare, but it's certainly happened to myself and plenty of other people. Early electric weapons put out serious damage if they trigger and get a high roll, and being on a low hp race certainly doesn't help.

Yeah, those wily kobolds (and now increasingly, goblins?) are kind of notorious for sneaking in a nasty piece of gear every so often.

Quick weapon + electrocution is definitely nasty on early levels.

On the plus side, if you can kill them you get to use their weapon.

On a similar note, playing offline I just passed Sigmund on D2 wielding a Scythe of Distortion.

He teleported me, but very fortunately didn't banish or disintegrate/disrupt me.

Came back and Polymorphed him into a wasp, outlasted him in Treeform. But dang, no Lugonu-corrupted temple. Ha.
