The stupidest character I've ever had

So, I decided to pick up Crawl again after quitting for a few months due to my first 15-rune ascension being ludicrously easy due to some great luck (https://crawl.develz.org/tavern/viewtopic.php?p=221196#p221196), and I ended up getting even more lucky with my very first character. The game got so incredibly easy that the only reason I even bothered continuing the game after clearing the orb chamber was the bragging rights of having two 15-rune ascensions in a row for my first two 15-rune ascensions. Behold, the terror and the glory:
  Code:

If you look at all my artefacts, you're probably thinking, "holy shit, that's amazing". Believe me when I say that if I had lost every single item in my inventory, I could've walked back to my lair stash, grab some more, and be operating at 95% power. And if I lost all of THOSE, I could've walked back to my lair stash and grab some more and operate at 90% power. I had enough amazing rings to make two or three very happy octopodes, plus a handful of great randarts of every single equipment type except boots and cloaks. It's telling when a chei mage decides that a hat of pondering just isn't strong enough anymore. And this was all before I'd even entered the realm of zot or any endgame branches. And those mutations! Aside from blurry vision, I was pretty stacked - hell, RNJesus was on my side so much so that a full half of the malmutates that actually went through during the course of the game gave me positive mutations.

I finally got to the point where I was saying, "geez, the only thing that could possibly threaten me is if I get smited or hellfire-d a bunch of times in a row".

Two pan floors later and I walk into a chamber with four daevas at about 4/5 HP, cast Fire Storm such that it'll only hit me if it goes max AoE (it does), and then they smite the everloving shit out of me as I read a scroll of fog because I'm stupid, and three of them can still see me after it finally goes off. Then I stupidly used a mirror to copy one hoping they'd attack it instead of me (they didn't), and then they continue to smite the everloving shit out of me, finally killing me, as I finally wise up and try a scroll of blinking. My amazing luck was my undoing: if it weren't for so many good mutations, I would've drank a potion of cure mutation to get rid of the blurry vision, and I would've never been in that situation in the first place if I hadn't been rushing through the game because it was so generally easy and tedious, and probably would've been just a tad smarter about it.

Kinda disappointed I couldn't pull off two 15-rune ascensions two characters in a row, but honestly, when I finally died I just laughed, more relieved than anything else. I knew my sloppiness would catch up to me sooner or later.

True, but Intelligence isn't the measure of all things; at the very least, you could definitely make an argument that my character was rather slow.

My friend once had a character who died because he was so stupid he forgot to breathe. So I thoroughly concur that this character was not stupid at all.

Re: The stupidest character I've ever had

Some of those things are great (I never saw a dragonskin cloak), but what's with the macabre finger necklace? I've seen that turn up repeatedly, fairly early on in the game, and when it does it tends to go straight to hoard. I don't see a Regen+ anywhere on that sheet...

The finger necklace lets you wear an extra ring, making it very worthwhile for many characters.

Re: The stupidest character I've ever had

The necklace basically says you give up your amulet slot for a third ring. The amulet technically still gives you warding (which includes rN), but that's a pretty weak amulet on it's own. So just depends on how good your third best ring is. Generally rings are pretty strong so it's often a good amulet, but it does depend.

I find most of the amulets to be pretty weak honestly. GS is nice but it really depends of the character because having you mana drained can suck. Regeneration is good but you frequently have the spell it it doesn't help that much except is extremely drawn out combat. It does suck if you have crappy rings and a good artifact amulet with something like rF++ MR++ slay+6, but those aren't very common.

TLDR; I find that it is usualy more about how good your other amulets are than anything else.
