First octopode to get anywhere, first gozag character to get anywhere as well.
I've cleared the lair, swamp, spider, slime, orc, elf, crypt, the vaults and the depths as well as zot 1-4 so far.
I'm toying with the idea of switching to TSO -> makh. or dith., not entirely sure what I want to do at this point but this character certainly seems promising;
With some luck hopefully I'll pull off another 15 rune game- with an octopode!

Ty- the shield is awesome, I'm glad I didn't let donald get next to me with that thing equipped.
I trained polearms and stealth to level 10 or so fairly early, which I believe helped, as well as finding the ring of robustness before I got ozocubu's armour.
My strategy early on was a cloud stabber with IMB/OOD nukes, mid game I switched to a freezing/poison gas stabber with IMB/OOD nukes.
Now I'm planning on going invis./needle stabber + OOD/Glaciate/Tornado, and switching out IMB for thrown javilens, though I'll still keep freezing cloud for a rainy day.

The tough part is trying to survive long enough to get some decent rings, AC and skills to make it through the lair before a hydra or spiny frog make popcorn out of you, lol.

Switched to TSO, still dealing with gozag's wrath, which is surprisingly nasty (the buffs he gives to monsters make me wish I'd abandoned trog).
Had a couple close calls, one took me down to 20 hp and the other 60, both were do to 'reapers' of all things, which are the last enemies I'd expect to harm me;
Have they been massively buffed or something?
Perhaps I'm just feeling it do to the squishy nature of octopodes, lol.
Made it to dis:6 so far. I think I might be better off in pan until the hell wrath stops stacking with gozag's.
Edit: Going to pan... panned out well; Gloorx gave me a shiny new rune to play with. :twisted:
Edit (again): Time to leave TSO soon, how does dithmenos fair with octopodes? I've never used his abilities, but they sound sort of neat;
Though makhleb is likely a much better bet... Maybe even sif. ->makhleb if I don't find the book of annihilations soon. lol

Though I've only got tomb and antaeous left I kind of want to push my luck and see how far I can carefully zig scum myself some even better rings on top of what I have.
Once I've got tornado a bit more castable than 54%, this squid will be (almost) unstoppable as long as I don't let myself get tempted to go past zig:18-20 or so.
