YAVP: Orbrun through tomb for golden rune: DrVm of Vehumet
It began in Zot 5.
I made it to the stairs.... to depths...to dungeon...to vaults...when one of my spectators mentioned that the smoke from the orb was missing and also no demons came hunting me.
Ups.
Forgot to take the orb with me.
I was nervous.
It was a character with so many problems during the game and now after getting 14 runes I was risking him for .... a banner.
Back to Zot 5, this time I grabbed the rune and got to Tomb.
There wasn't anything special for a high-level-caster: Firestorm, Glaciate, Tornado (staff of energy for keeping the spells hungerless) with subl. for blood + regeneration for regaining mana.
After killing everything in Tomb 3 with firestorm and grabbing the golden rune I took a look into one of the treasure vaults (just for showing my spectators that I felt very confident)
Then they were coming. Pan Lord after Pan Lord which is a problem when one is spending the mana on killing them 1 at a time instead of hitting them all at once.
I had no idea where they came from (blamed bad RNG) and didn't think about it but instead of looking into the second treasure vault I made my way back out of tomb.
In Tomb 1 I teleported to shorten the way and got lucky: arrived near the gate in Tomb 1 where usually the sphinxes hang around when you get there for the first time.
I didn't make a picture of what was waiting for me:
4 Pan Lords and a *lot* of 'smaller' demons.
Checking their descriptions/positions it was clear that Tornado was the best solution for dealing damage to that many dangerous demons that close to me.
Typing "it could have been worse" into the chat log I made my turn.
The next thing I saw was a tree which was my former draconian.
EDIT: SH stayed the same, AC was increased a bit but EV was gone.
Checking my resists I was down to F+ (shield) and C+ (mutation) and I'm so glad that not all of my resists were on my melded equipment.
Relec I didn't even have before that, rcorr was gone with gloves.
Now I had immunity to torment but lousy resists.
I didn't have any potion of cancellation and was immobile.
Any demon with the ability to Hellfire me who decided to stay out of the range of tornado could have hellfired me and some of them decided to do so.
Unreachable for Glaciate and Firestorm is a lousy spell against fire-resistant demons.
In the beginning I thought that these demons were for some reasons clustered together and waiting for me there.
I was so wrong: All of Tomb 1 looked like this and now they were coming attracted by the noise.
During my way to the golden rune I had fought against demons but the majority of them must have been generated outside of the walls and since they were unable to get to me they were all waiting outside now.
I had always assumed that demons generated during the orbrun would generate only in LOS. No.
A lot of interesting tactical decisions later when the flood seemed to dry up (like my hp) the transformation ended and one of my spectators (also my team captain for tournament) made a joke about getting abyssed is missing and that's what happened next. My MR was only MR+++ (27*3 + 1*MR+ from item).
Luckily I made it out in short time which is not guaranteed even with the rune.
Never been in the abyss with the orb before.
On my way to the exit of Tomb I encoutered even more demons but finally made it out and the way to D1 was one of the most peaceful experiences in this game.
(Didn't use Necromutation because I have never used it except for casting it once just to have a look at it)
When you laugh about the turncount/real time: for a long time it was a horrible/interesting game with zero resists/Sinv (except for N) for Dungeon, Lair, Orc, parts of Swamp and elf before Asterion in Elf 2 gave me my first resist: rpois on his shield (which I had to skill...). Food was always a problem because of spread-out skills and the inability for a long time to attack any packs who might have some dangerous ways to attack me (branded ammo).
Fulminant prism was my way to deal with invisible monsters (unseen horrors).
Food shortage also forced me out of abyss 3 in my first try because some resists were coming only from 0-skills-weapons so I had to cast big spells without the help of staff of energy too often.
Visited Zigs 2 times just to get more perma food for tomb.
