CIP: Ds Warper of Makhleb - 15 runes, at Zig:20

Currently sitting on cleared Zig:20 as a pure melee character. Started Warper, found an amazing +11 randart plate and went full melee.
I've seen before that people have said doing Zig without spells is a BAD idea in general, but I feel like this char is a real badass. *knock on wood*

This is my first 15 rune run. I've cleared everything except Zot1-5 and the Zig I'm currently in, what I'm debating is on whether or not I should bail now while I still can.
Zig:20 almost wiped my happy ass out.
Tormentors, Hellfiends, Shadowfiends, a Pan Lord, and other nasties, and I got mesm by a Tortured thing in the room and couldn't run.
They got me down to 39/266 hp, at which point I YOLO'd a pot of Berserk in a last ditch effort to not die.
I actually managed to survive due in part to 2 things: Makhleb is amazing AF when combined with my +14 Ax with the Chopping Brand.
Because of those two things I was able to out heal the multiple Torments and Flaying each round while zerked.

I feel like the obvious answer to my question is "YES", but I have to ask; Should I bail?
This being my first 15 rune run, I'd love to also get a Zig under my belt, but I also don't wanna blow my first 15er because I got cocky when I had the chance to back off.

Personally, if that was me, I would hop out of the Zig and go win, especially if it's your first 15 rune win.

Just curious, you're wearing a +0 cloak of rElec, despite already having rElec from other equipment. Is there no better cloak for you to wear? You're not really casting any spells, so the +4 int isn't making that big of a difference. I think even just a standard +2 cloak would be better than what you're wearing right now.

(Also, in case you didn't know, the obsidian axe causes mesmeration when an enemy enters line of sight. I've never heard of a "tortured thing", and considering you just got the axe on the previous floor, and then used it to clear floor 20, I'm almost 100% positive that's what was causing your mesmeration, not an enemy.)

Almost invariably, if you are sitting in a zig floor that you just barely cleared wondering if you should try one more (hoping for some kind of easy floor), if you go down you will die.

A holy floors will most likely murder you. Violently. Not to mention the things a mummy floor could do to your tactic of killing stuff fast. I'd definitely bail out now.

Hmmm. I'd say you have approximately 0.5% chance of staying alive clearing the remaining seven levels.

Over 50% if they all are orc levels.

What about that axe would cause the Mesm though? It's not in the desc anywhere at all, and neither the vorpal brand or curse on it cause Mesm. It was a Torturous Demonspawn btw, It was late when I wrote that post and couldn't think of the critter at the time.

I tabbed through the Holy Realm in Pan, only losing at most 20hp throughout the whole thing, so I'm not daunted by the thought of a holy floor tbh.
And as far as the killing things fast goes, I don't have to kill things fast, but I was saying that was the reason I was able to survive vs multiple torment sources at a time.

I'll most likely bail now and go Zot + Orbrun.
The reason I'm even considering continuing the Zig, is that there are only 2 things that actually do damage to me at this point: Torment and Flay. But I'm guessing the odds of me not seeing a torment source for 7 more levels is pretty low. If I happened to luck out I could clear the Zig, but somehow I think that won't happen :p

It's not in the description, but the learndb says that it causes mesmerization. I used the axe a few versions back and can confirm that it did, at one point in time, forcibly mesmerize you when enemies are in view, but that may have changed since then, although I doubt it.

The obsidian axe is an unrandart, and you've got to remember that unrandarts are sometimes spoily and have additional effects that aren't listed. For example, the plutonium sword causes transmutation miscasts on hit, and the scythe of curses causes necromancy miscasts on hit, even though those aren't listen inside the { effects } bracket.

Well, I've never won a 15 rune game. Never won at all, for that matter, so take my advice with that in mind. On the other hand, one of the main reasons I keep not winning is because I don't run away soon enough. So the way I look ta it is: if I get to the point where I stop and ask myself "Should I bail?", the answer is almost certainly "You should have already bailed!".
