I've got Haste castable, as well as a /Haste so I'd lose a lot going with Chei but that armour's pretty incredible.

I know I said to go chei in the other topic.. but if you aim to win the game most probably not-going chei and not-using that awesome armour give you the highest probability to win, for how is developed the char at this point, because for a not neglegible amount of time you'll lose most of your offensive capabilities (which would be bad especially with chei) and haste and so on.

That's said, I personally would definitely use that shit because mad randart like that happens once every ten thousand games. In the case you wanna risk it, have you a cheap way (ring, some decent randart) to increase your str? If you can bring up to 20ish with that, and raising later with level up, you may avoid chei, in favour of Ash or Vehumet. Furthermore, I'd grab the best weapon avaiable and start to train it asap, as for long time, in any case, you will not be able to cast anything.

edit: I am not a fan of broad axe but tha's certainly a good weapon, dunno if you have found anything else.

I've got a lajatang of pain stashed away which could be great but I've avoided Necromancy since you can't animate gold.

If I went Chei I probably wouldn't wear the crystal plate until I'd gotten a solid melee attack going. So tempting.

Honestly have to wonder if it'd be worth it even with chei at full piety, looks like the cursed armour of "would have been nice". Unless you can figure out how to grow 15 armour and axes out of nowhere.

As others said, if you don't care about winning I'd wear it though :lol:

Edit: Actually, make that 15 armour, axes, and throwing, since AC has no guaranteed reduction vs ranged and you'll still die fast :P

Use the lajatang. It requires *only* 14 skill levels to min delay, and you'll need to save XP :p

It isn't guarenteed, but it still does apply a normal AC roll, which should be more then enough protection when you're in a +21 CPA. The armor manuals will make training it fairly easy, the main problem is giving up conjurations and suddenly switching to melee. Having to train only a weapon or only armor wouldn't be too bad, trying to do both at once, especially on a mummy, would be tough. Doable, but tough.

I'm not sure how directly relatable this is, but I recently killed off a spriggan of gozag trying to convert it to a completely different playstyle (chei and statue form): http://dobrazupa.org/morgue/tasonir/mor ... 004024.txt I do not claim my transition makes any sense at all, I did it for fun mostly, and it didn't work out. It was a berserked fire giant (from gozag wrath) that eventually did him in, although the strategic choice were nearly as important.

If you do want to go through with the switch, I'd probably first switch gods and work off wrath with conjurations, then wear the armor and switch to melee. Perhaps train armor/melee skill while working off the wrath, so they aren't 0 when you switch.

I took the plunge. Go team Chei! So far it's been working out pretty well. Burned a bunch of teleport scrolls while gaining piety on E2 but otherwise not too bad.

Now I have too many skills I'd like to train: Invocations, Necromancy, Evocations for the rods, and Throwing (I've got portal projectile available).
And of course Armour and Fighting. The vamp glaive's going to take a lot too but it's feeling more solid than the lajatangs.

Right after joining Chei I found the +5 Str cloak. Probably would have gone Ash if I had found it first.

The switch to Chei worked out fine (thanks nago!), plus I had some great drops. With the crystal plate and a vamp weapon I was rarely below 90% HP. The orb run was dicey a few times, the worst was 2 Pan Lords and a Hell Sentinel on D1 within sight of the exit but Step From Time cleared the path out.
