[YAVP] - MuGl^Gozag - 6 rune

Ok, looking for gozag because for some reason I have this mummy of gozag idea that I really want to work even though it never does when I try it.

Anyways, I started with a staff and found crazy yiuf and snagged his staff which was nice.
Two acquirement scrolls, the first netter me +7 lajatang of order, which is nice for when I get to crypt, abyss, and against OoF but the brand isn't great for normal enemies.
The second gave me +4 vampiric demon blade. which is pretty nice considering I cang use healing potions.

I'm still pre lair. I only have 10 in staves. Should I switch course for the long blade or stick with my staves considering I have chaos staff for now and lajatang of order for later?

I would train Fighting to about 5, Armour to 6.3 and only after that would consider switching to vampiric blade. rMut is not a big deal for Mu, free switching to vampiric weapon is. Do you have a good buckler?

It's fine, I played a Mu with 1h weapon without any shield (there were no good bucklers and normal shield was too expensive with Mu's aptitudes). Main problem with weapon switching is that you are underpowered while switching so if you will feel you are too weak, consider training staves to 14 before switching (or even don't switch, lajatang is a good weapon and you have a chance to find (or rebrand to) lajatang of speed) which is truly awesome).

Does Gozag only place shops on levels I haven't explored? What if I don't call shops early and explore a lot of the dungeon, do I lose those shops?

This is one of those games where I feel like I'm going to make the "wrong" decision. I should probably just commit to one.

Anyways, started with L blades, up to about 11, staves are about 10. Found a lajatang in lair and it branded to ice which isn't a bad brand for lajatang I believe? Speed is what I'm aiming for though.

So... is lajatang of ice (assuming I don't find a better one) better in the long run than vampiric Demon Blade? Likely ill find a better demon blade, they are pretty common by depths. So I'm not concerned about the brand on it.

Mummy is rough. I did manage to survive two early banishments though. Starting to feel like I'm not getting chewed up in every fight though. -2 makes dodging and armour slow training. Switching weapons might have also contributed but its working fairly well so far.

I would have recomended not switching weapons. The vamp demon blade is objectivly better, but losing lots of exp is bad, espcialy on Mu. Now that you have switched you are fine, but the transition phase is dangerous.

Ok So I ran into Mara On Spider 4. I tried to use a mirror but it was pretty useless. Tried going after him with the lajatang of order but multiple Maras and a copy of me again were too much. Cant bribe the branch either. So...

I thought about slime since I have rCorr and rMut (does it actually do anything for a mummy?)
I could also just hit vaults and get that rune and then try for something else later when I see where I am at that point?

Also, does Gozag still duplicate items? How is this done? Would be nice to duplicate my sword and rebrand it to see if I can get something to switch to for certain situations (elec for demons/fire for hydra/ ice for OoF later?)

Manual of armour helped nicely with getting my defenses up too.

nope, duplicating is out.

i'd do vaults, and bribe just before going down to v:5. elf:3 is also fairly easy with a bribe. if you want more exp you can clear depths. after that you should be strong enough to deal with mara, or just dive past and steal the rune. slime is also very doable.

Playing in trunk so Mara and the rune are both on spider 4 so no diving. Ended up in vaults, doing a fair job too. Though I spent some money on an acquirement scroll. So bribing is out unless I make it back. Ill probably do depths first anyways so I should have enough to bribe V5 by then easily.

So I bribed the vaults, as soon as I went down to V5, my bribe was exhausted. I didn't get a single ally from it in the end? Seems like I just wasted 3k gold. Perhaps this ability needs some tweaking cause its kinda crappy to not get any benefit from it in the places you want it most.

wow, sorry about that. i'm fairly sure it did a decent job of softening up the welcoming party when i did it. did you do it after clearing 1-4?

yeah. I think the problem is that when monters are peaceful they take money and when they are allied they also do to fight, I think they are no longer allies/peaceful once the fund is spent? So if a lot of them were bribed, it was spent immediately, and then they were no longer bribed.

Hmm. No really good rF+ gear to be found yet. Going to hit up crypt now. I'm considering slime but I'm not sure I can handle TRJ. It always seems hit or miss and I don't think I've figured any really good strategies for it. I can try another phantom mirror on it I suppose?

Anyways, another question I have is, after I finish zot 1-4, is it worth trying to rebrand my demon blade to something that would be useful against Ancient lich and OoF, or just let it be for free healing vs dragons/orb guardians?

I'd say TRJ is easier than Zot:5 as you have rCorr but no rF. Use phantom mirror on it. See if there's a scroll of torment anywhere. It would be amazing if you could get TRJ in LOS and its phantom copy out of LOS simultaneously, before tormenting.

Yeah, the phantom copy has HP proportional to the original's HP at the moment of mirroring, so if you mirror something when it's almost dead, the phantom copy will be almost dead too.

Being undead makes Tomb much easier. Death curses can still slow and stat-drain you.

ok. Got the dragonskin cloak too, but I'm currently using one that gives me +9 int to try and get some spells online, should I abandon death channel and summon shadow creatures for the AC and potential resistances the cloak offers?

If for some reason you're doing Zot before Tomb now, it's hard to say: dragonskin cloak is not reliable but your only rF source while summons are useful for holding off enemies and shadow creatures are great in Zot.

Erm... you have TWO rings of protection from fire. Just wear them both.

yeah I've been putting the second one on when I come up to OoF, I keep the EV ring otherwise for defenses. switching seems fairly quick. 3 EV probably isn't going to make or break my defenses though I guess.

Vampiric brand doesn't work on demons, undead, or OoF right?

I found a second demon blade. Its +9 now after I used my EW scrolls on it, my first brand attempt made it ice which probably isn't great for demon blade, but I'm better will be the best against OoF. Is it worth keeping or should I try to get something better for tomb? I have 7 brand scrolls left.

Slicing and flaming would be better against mummies, but just go do tomb anyway, it should be easier than zot for you. Target the anubis guards: they have dispel undead and both of your brands are good against them.

Hmm, shadow creatures in tomb... friendly Anubis guards? :P

Shadow creatures definitely helped in both. Also had control undead for tomb which also controls undead summons and turns them against the priests which was useful. Ended up with 6 runes. I cleared the vestibule of hell. Contemplated Pan and Hell. I'm fairly certain I could have done Pan and had at least two pips of resist for each hell but I didn't want to die at that point and they can be a but more of a gamble. Got my mummy zag win finally.

I eventually switched to the dragonskin cloak with all my spells still with an acceptable failure rate. Zot was a breeze. The only close call was an ancient lich at the end of Tomb was retreating to the stairs and just got smacked big time but its spells. Think it had an OoD and then an iron shot or LCS in the same round. Had 2 hp left. Was saved by a blink scroll and silence took care of the rest after I got upstairs to heal.
