CIP -> YAVP: DDFi

Started DDFi on webtiles, wanting to play something different this time, and surprisingly what I expected to be a challenge run has been anything but.
Ok, I'll admit it was a little bit sketchy in the beginning, but it wasn't half as bad as I expected, by the time I got my armour and axe skills up to reasonable levels I was an unstoppable, homicidal popcorn-addict!
I'm sort of debating on weather to enchant that great mace of holy wrath as a back up weapon,
many of my best characters had several highly enchanted weapons for different occasions, and there's a manual that could help me gain the 3 levels in a shop.
My total lack of ranged combat can be made up for with that fog cloak it seems, despite it's -2 slaying drawback that cloak is quite good.
Speaking of slaying... I still haven't found any, despite having went to two bazaars and a trove;
Also all acquirement scrolls (aside from the first one- that executioners axe) have given me non-enchanted or otherwise useless hats. :lol:

Re: CIP: DDFi

Made it up to 5 runes (just got the abyssal), haven't taken a DD through hell yet;
Should I dive as fast as possible at all costs to avoid random torment, or take my time and clear out the branches like I normally do?
The prospect of being tormented (possibly randomly) for near half of my hp several times in a row as a DD is pretty sketchy, more so than with a normal character...
Fog, fog, fog...

Re: CIP: DDFi

Dive as quickly as possible. Clearing out the 7th floor for loot is up to you, but defiantly dive floor 1-6 as fast as possible.

Re: CIP: DDFi

Good advice, couldn't resist clearing most of it out though, especially the third floors.
I left cocytus out but I've gotten 2 pan runes and 3 hell runes not to mention the normal slime and abyssal so it's going good.
Strolling through pan right now, the angel level was tough but I made it through.
Lob lobon almost killed me, still not sure how I failed to die on that one, it was close to say the least.

My main goal right now is to acquire enough transmutations and necromancy to cast necromutation ASAP;
Even with rN+++ it's eating me alive no matter how careful I am, let alone when I do something tactically stupid.

Current char dump: http://dobrazupa.org/morgue/killdudes/killdudes.txt

Edit: Almost forgot to mention, the cloak of the thief is AWESOME! :shock:
Second edit: At level 27, with 34 str, 27 armour skill and 27 axes, my plate armour still interferes sometimes. :?: :!:

Re: CIP: DDFi

Your plate will never stop interfering, Which is one of the reasons I like light armour bezerkers. You can never reduce armour penalties to 0, all of the reductions are percentage reductions that stack multiplicatively.

Necromute is amazing.

Necromute is amazing.

Sounds like it might still be worth switching to that PDA when it's fully enchanted, then.
Up to 12 runes now, gloorx antaeus and... tomb... are all that's left.
Necromutation is down to a 24% fail rate, hopefully it will be 1% by the time I hit the tomb.

Now the question is what weapon to enchant for antaeus;
Three skill levels (with a manual!) and I could use a +8 great mace of holy wrath at min delay,
or with a bit of shield training I could use a +9 holy scourge along with a shield of resistance I found- very tempting despite the drop in damage output.
I feel totally indecisive about this one...

Re: CIP: DDFi

The accuracy penalty from armour is tiny, the only time you should ever care about it is if you find GDA on d:1 with 1 str. Fighting and weapon skill increase accuracy by much more than armour skill.

I see; But still, even with 27 axes, armour, fighting, etc. it was surprising to see how often that message still occurs.
I'll stick with this plate mail until my resistances are covered well enough to switch to that PDA, if I find another 5 enchant armour scrolls that is.
Should help my spell success a bit if nothing else.

Re: CIP: DDFi

Why did the rng have to give me access to a +1 broad axe of holy wrath, a +3 holy scourge, a +1 great mace of holy wrath, a shield of resistance and 7 enchant scrolls... And my +9 executioner's axe of freezing... I keep trying to decide but my brain keeps throwing recursion errors at me on account of the circular thinking... :geek:

You have 27 axes and an executioners axe. Why switch?

Hell sentinels and antaeus, mainly... (in that order?)
Hell sentinels take so many swings to take down it's ridiculous, the only reason I'm not dead is because I always avoid them when they are around anything capable of using torment, but they *always* take more hp than I gain even in a 1-on-1 fight as it is.
Between their' all-encompassing resists and their high AC, those bastards are in another league.

It's been interesting playing as a pure melee character for a change, though;
He did use a lot of tomahawks and needles in the early game,
but never trained any ranged skill, while needles are completely useless at this stage.
I planned on training crossbows, but a trip. crossbow never came up, and with this many runes on me I might as well stick to melee since I have that cloak.
That cloak has earned it's weight in gold, as has my main offensive/escape spell: Controlled blink. (... It's like a new spell: Throw 'Axe Maniac' :roll: )

I've been too preoccupied getting this new(ish) non-crashy, non-pos laptop (albiet with a messed up linux install) usable the last couple days (without sleep), haven't finished configuring it but at least I can connect to the internet now (ubuntu's 'NetworkManager' is evil, PURE EVIL);
Way too tired to finish this run tonight, would probably die... Tomorrow I'll give it another go and see if I can live long enough to ascend with 15 runes.

Re: CIP -> YAVP: DDFi

Finally managed to score my second 15 rune win (third win overall).
That was a fun run- the cloak of fog is freaking awesome!

Edit: saved antaeus for last, and glad I did- he was still tough even after tomb (which was a cake-walk?), forgot how much damage he can deal.

Re: CIP -> YAVP: DDFi

I often do tomb before pan. It really isn't that bad, as the layout is pregenerated so you know exactly what to expect.
