CIP -> YASD: DsMo of Chei- a few questions...

I lost my last Richard Nixon to hard disk failure while he was sitting on the back burner, so I made another.
I'm sort of wanting to make this character a zig scummer (and eventually clearer),
but I have a few questions on where to go from here.
I've zig scummed up to 22-23 of each zig for a while with my overpowered centaur before he got paralyzed by a pack of pan lords,
but I've yet to clear one, so hopefully this character will help change that.

Should I switch from chei now or wait until I have all the pan runes and my skills and resists are pumped enough to feel more comfortable scumming pan under chei's wrath? (I've never left chei so idk what I'm in for besides what the wiki says)
Honestly chei has been surprisingly good so far- even making it possible for me to cast spells I have very little skill for.
Is chei viable for clearing zigs under any circumstances?

I'm wondering about that armor as well, double regen is very powerful though, more so than I would have guessed, but that -9 mp is harsh.
If the wiki is correct about spines only deducting encumbrance/3 from their' damage output then an IDA would only cost 1 point of spiny damage,
and the extra resists may potentially outweigh the value of the double regen and +1 spiny damage though...

Also, can makhlebs -hp abilities trigger powered by pain?

Chei is decent in your first Zig, but really no god is as good for megaZigs as Makhleb is, up to you when you want to switch. The bonus to all of your magic abilities is great, but you can replace that with another 3-4 skill levels in all your spell schools, which isn't that much experience to ask for when you're talking about extended/ziggs. You don't seem to be casting all that much magic as it is, anyways.

You'd probably want a lot more magic if you're going to be clearing megazigs, as well as understanding how to prevent paralysis. Panlords can't paralyse you without checking MR, the only way they can get around this is by indirectly summoning eyeballs which can then paralyse through MR - you should see them summoned first and prioritize killing the eyeballs before you can be paralysed. You should have at least 3 turns to this (giant eyeballs are one of the slowest monsters in the game at speed 3). So a ranged aoe spell is required, you don't want to be melee only in mega zigs. Since exp isn't an issue most people go straight up for the heavy hitters like firestorm or tornado.

Alright, sounds chei should be decent for most of the extended as I seem to be doing well as is.
I think I'll switch after I've got most or all of the runes.

I planned on training air or fire (not sure which yet) as soon as I get my unarmed from 24.8 to 27, but maybe I should begin early.

I didn't see any eyeballs summoned with my CeHu (or CeFi?), though I could have overlooked one I suppose- I'm sure he would have been much more survivable if he had some extra spell power for his tornado and glaciate (e.g. if I had trained his int higher than 7).
I'll keep an extra close eye out for that this time around, and I'll probably stick to zig 1-18 for a while until I've got all sorts of powerful randarts to help me get enough MR, etc.

Would it be worth switching to an ice dragon armour as I have so many resists?
Then i could go from [rc+++, rf++] to [rf+++, rc+] just by casting hydra form, or wear a ring of fire and be [rc++, rf++] and rf+++ with no rc in hydra form. 8-)

R.I.P. Richard Nixon II... Didn't make it out of the abyss;
Died to a daeva despite having easily killed a handful this one got me with a lucky hit using it's holy wrath weapon for even more than I expected it to.
Happened to be standing on the exit as well, just to add insult to injury- after being teleported from the previous gate while standing about 2 tiles away from it. (too bad that wasn't a xom run)
