New Directions for Demonspawn Stabber

I had hoped to get a few stealth mutations for this one as I often get them but did not. So first I got up my short blade skills and am just now working on stealth etc. Not really anything exciting for mutations but at least no Demonic Guardian. I am now wondering if stabber is the right way to build him. With Ash's help I can still do a pretty good job at stabbing but the mutations make him more of an enhanced fighter than a stabber. Just not sure where to go with him. I did pick up a pain daggar so it might not be bad to develop necro skills and be an ok stabber as well. But still haven't got a quick blade and that would better with pain on it.

An unrelated question. Is a fan of gales worth grabbing for 400?

Stabbing with speed dagger gives you faster kills with EH (1EH+0.3-4attack), and with Confuse stabs you get more stabs in the same time in as well. You know how annoying it is that monsters stumble away from being adjacent to you? Well with speed dagger you get around 50% more stabbing opportunities before that, and before confuse wears off.

Actually, I normally use the draining because it helps if I get mobbed. But I think I will keep stabbing as Ash is really quite nice to us stabbers. :D

I'd use the elec dagger, drain is ok too. Pick up stuff from the book of Frost (freeze/ozo/icebeast) or geomancy (LRD/passwall/petrify/stoneskin). If you have any good necro spells than the pain dagger is amazing.
Stop training short blades, you might even have Ash remove some of that skill.

Yes, I realize I put too much into SB. Still figuring out how to do skills with Ash. It is very nice to have the skill boosts as a DS as they learn skills very slowly.

Corpse regen is very useful, in branches with corpses.

Eventually you'll probably want invisibility and haste. Darkness is also a good spell for stabbers (reduces line of sight and hence monster's ability to see you). Shadow creatures and Animate dead will give you some buddies to be meat shields or distractions.

Yes, I like Darkness. Of course three levels of it from mutations is even better!.

What kind of levels of Hexes do I need for invisibility? IMHO if a stabber can get them both up to decent levels Orc Mines and even Elvish Halls are not much of a problem. I will research shadow creatures and animate dead. I am usually fine against tough monsters but have more trouble with mobs. Thanks for your advice.

Whatever gets you to a safe failure rate. As in, white text for the % fail rate. Invisibility isn't a spell you should be using in combat, so it does not have to be super reliable. (I left it at yellow fail rate til they changed miscast effects to be much nastier)

Invisibility is not going to clear Elf:3 because many of the powerful deep elves can see invisible. For that, you can use throwing nets, or dig a kill-hole and hope for the best.
