YAVP: Another MiBe of Trog, my furst win evar

Edit: Won the game, rather easily. So much good gear on this one . . .

This is by far my strongest character to date, which I see as some sort of karmic reward for all the terrible DeFes I've been leading to slaughter lately. His weapon (+8 executioner's axe of Flawed Execution {vamp, MR+++}) was the first gift Trog gave me, which has made the game very easy to this point. The Hat of the Alchemist is an absurd item that probably should have a bigger armor penalty, but who am I to complain?

I've never won a game of Crawl, and feel I could sleepwalk through the rest and win with this guy. While o-tabbing through V4 and U4, though, I began to wonder if I ought to explore some of extended as well. What would you do? V5 and U5 aren't touched yet.

If going extended, I'm wondering if I ought to change gods (TSO?). I don't need Trog's MR help. I've never managed to do that successfully, because I'm terrible at Crawl, but I expect I should do that soon if I'm going to do it at all.

Re: CIP: Another MiBe of Trog, on the cusp

If you have never won, don't go into extended, it's too easy to die there (vampiric brand becomes weak and lack of spells becomes a very severe drawback).
I would use ring of slaying instead of strength (or probably that unidentified ring of protection if it's +5-6), boots of running instead of any other boots and would go for Crypt 1-3, Elf:3, Depths:5 and Zot.
Why do you have so many mutations, your character would be much better without them (you lost 7 AC to deformed body, blurry vision can kill the character).

Edit. I missed that you already got Slime rune, no need to do Vaults 5 then, though it can be useful for potions of cure mutation.

Re: CIP: Another MiBe of Trog, on the cusp

I got the mutations in Slime (I think), and really should get rid of them... I hadn't even noticed I had them until I was pasting the dump into the forum. Thus far it hasn't mattered.

Thanks for the input!

First win! I ran into one ugly spot in the ascent, and was in a terribly grim situation on D1 when I got teleported right next to the exit.

Congratz! It's a great feeling when you get your first win! You might want to try a SpEn for a change of style, or possibly a blaster-caster of some sort (DrCj, possibly, since they have high HP and in-built AC)

  Code:
P - +8 executioner's axe of Flawed Execution {vamp, MR+++}

That's got to be the most ironic name for a randart I've ever seen!

I got the mutations in Slime (I think), and really should get rid of them... I hadn't even noticed I had them until I was pasting the dump into the forum.

It's the shining eyes that did that - always swap to an amulet of rMut whenever you see one.

Also, I'd have gone for a lot more evocations instead of dodging on a 3-rune victory - you'd probably get more return for your investment since low dex and heavy armour always makes EV very difficult to raise, and evocations is the only way to get spell-like options as a Trog worshipper.

Re: YAVP: Another MiBe of Trog, my furst win evar

Thanks, good points. I wasn't quite sure what to do with my exp once I'd maxed out my other traits. I've always neglected evocations, and evocables in general, but in this game I saw what higher evocation can do for you. Next time I'll put more there.

The Hat of the Alchemist has rMut (ridiculous piece of gear, if you ask me) so I didn't bother keeping my rMut amulet in my inventory. The mutations I had were despite that. It wasn't a big deal to get rid of them.
