In November I began to play some DgEE and as far as I can remember, I didn't really get far (Vaults max). Then I stopped to play for several months, so when I created new character few days ago, I also didn't expect to get far. Well I was wrong and here is my third win (second 15-rune).

Sandblast and artifact mace +8 I found carried me through early game fairly easily, Petrify and Lee's Rapid Deconstrion was also great for AoE damage. And then I found Iron shot in Vaults and I never looked back, spell hunger dropped pretty fast (I did put all of my stats into Int after all) and then I used it as my main source of damage for the rest of the game. Also right before Vault 5 I learned Shatter, and man is that spell strong.

I would also probably not survive without all the evocation stuff, fan of gales and phial of floods saved my life countless times and of course infinite mana from crystal ball.

There were few moments when I thought I'm going to die, mostly because of overconfidence and because I played too fast.
For example fight with Dispater: I didn't backoff to recast haste before engaging him and then it ran out when I needed to retreat, at the same time Hell effect spawned 2 tormenters right behind me - blocking my escape route. Random teleport and shatter saved me, teleport moved me only on the other side of the room, but it gave me time to heal myself just enough to finish him off, plus the Shatter I used created path I could escape and heal myself properly (there were still those Torments and a lot of other stuff just behind him).

And of course Tomb, its really easy when you can just skip most of it and then stair dance to Tomb:3 while killing everything in sight almost instantly with Shatter.

After all that Zot:5 wasn't really a problem, at that point I had Crystal Spear, everything died in 1 or 2 shots.

I just got done with a 3 rune DgEE, myself, and found that frustrating enough. Well done!

Thanks, I think the most frustrating part of the game was actually around the first rune (after the Lair and D:15), didn't really have many problems after I found Iron shot.

Actually I haven't used that lajatang much in later portions of the game. I did use mostly Iron shot + Crystal ball and when I really did need to bash something I used staff of earth, because I was too lazy to switch weapons :). Probably could get myself some nice shield, but I don't think I found any good one that game.
