YAVP - HEGl (Atheist challenge)
Didn't intend to go atheist on this guy from the start, but the combination of ridiculous starting gear and no temple until D:7 put the idea into my head. Not having a god really wasn't a problem until late in the game when my armour skill started training at a glacial pace and I wished I had Ash's reskilling.
Key points:
- High elf atheist seemed easier than demigod (actually, significantly easier). Stats weren't much worse, training skills was significantly easier. This isn't right...
- 2nd heavy armour caster I've won recently. Heavy armour casting - definitely viable, no questions (well, dragon armour casting anyway). Before the deformed body mutation I had 47/32/42 AC/EV/SH with my best gear and phase shift on - virtually unbeatable in standard combat - I scalped Mennas without really even taking any damage. Hit the armour jackpot, but no good weapons except Bloodbane late (didn't even find a demon blade until D:25 or so, and no double sword whole game). Used Erika's flaming scimitar for 70% of the game
- Unfortunately, my resists sucked (had to use a longsword of rf/rC in Zot!) and there was no amulet of resist mutation generated in the whole game. I started clearing Dis but gave up after getting a few crappy mutations from random Cacodemons. Couldn't do Slime Pits without rMut (I tried and a shining eye greeted me with shoutitis). I thought about Pan, but decided to preserve the challenge win.
