YAVP - MuNe of Ash
So, background: necromancer. First, it is a very strong background, and second: necromancy is the only thing mummies don't suck at. The plan is to pick Kiku, get a fast weapon pain branded, then hit dudes with it.
On D:5 (still pre-Temple) comes Awesome Loot Number 1: an elec dagger. Is it awesome enough to change the plan? It might be. With an elec weapon, going for the pain brand is less appealing, so a few additional potential gods appear (in my mind). Finally I vote for Ash. I like Ash a lot, a play him (her?) only rarely. More importantly, Ash has good synergies with mummies: free clarity is one, and Ash's help is also very important if you have mummy aptitudes.
On D:8, Awesome Loot Number 2: the +1 leather armour of the Eight Curses {rElec rF++}. Mummy time!
Mid-Lair I find Awesome Loot Number 3: ring "Zedeets" {+Inv +Fly rElec}. OK, I got the message, I'll be a stabber. Let's train some evocations.
The orc ending as the easiest one (centaurs and orcs with crossbows), and another Awesome Loot: the +2 cloak of the Thief {+Fog Slay-2 SInv Stlth+}. Endless fog!
The swamp ending, however, was brutal, with a tentacled monstrosity. I had no way to deal with it, so left it unfinished, and went to Spider. Uncursed my weapon for a backup longsword against demonic crawlers, and also for the blowgun.
After that, I did some Vaults (hard), some Depths (harder), also Elf and Crypt. In the depths, got a new backup weapon (a demon blade) from one of Margery's knights. Finally I decided to do Slime for the 3rd rune. It was easy until the final level, where I realized I'm not good enough against TRJ. (I usually quaff might and agility before that fight, and it was missing here). I was lucky to get out alive. I decided to upgrade my stuff somewhat, so I hunted down the Enchantress, and her faerie dragon armour gave me +10 AC with unchanged EV. So came the rematch with TRJ, with a very different result.
After that I finished Swamp, and went to Zot. With invisibility, it is much easier than normal. The Zot:5 ending was average (I used curare vs the guardians, it is very good!), and the ascension was probably the easiest ever (no Pan lords).
My 45th win, 30th online.
Mummies suck, I'm very glad I won this one. Also, I'm on a streak now!
