YAVP - MuNe of Ash

Of all currently playable species, only Fe Fo Mu Op are unwon. OK, let's run a mummy. I had an offline win with a MuSu of Sif, but I don't want to copy that.

So, background: necromancer. First, it is a very strong background, and second: necromancy is the only thing mummies don't suck at. The plan is to pick Kiku, get a fast weapon pain branded, then hit dudes with it.

On D:5 (still pre-Temple) comes Awesome Loot Number 1: an elec dagger. Is it awesome enough to change the plan? It might be. With an elec weapon, going for the pain brand is less appealing, so a few additional potential gods appear (in my mind). Finally I vote for Ash. I like Ash a lot, a play him (her?) only rarely. More importantly, Ash has good synergies with mummies: free clarity is one, and Ash's help is also very important if you have mummy aptitudes.

On D:8, Awesome Loot Number 2: the +1 leather armour of the Eight Curses {rElec rF++}. Mummy time!

Mid-Lair I find Awesome Loot Number 3: ring "Zedeets" {+Inv +Fly rElec}. OK, I got the message, I'll be a stabber. Let's train some evocations.

The orc ending as the easiest one (centaurs and orcs with crossbows), and another Awesome Loot: the +2 cloak of the Thief {+Fog Slay-2 SInv Stlth+}. Endless fog!

The swamp ending, however, was brutal, with a tentacled monstrosity. I had no way to deal with it, so left it unfinished, and went to Spider. Uncursed my weapon for a backup longsword against demonic crawlers, and also for the blowgun.

After that, I did some Vaults (hard), some Depths (harder), also Elf and Crypt. In the depths, got a new backup weapon (a demon blade) from one of Margery's knights. Finally I decided to do Slime for the 3rd rune. It was easy until the final level, where I realized I'm not good enough against TRJ. (I usually quaff might and agility before that fight, and it was missing here). I was lucky to get out alive. I decided to upgrade my stuff somewhat, so I hunted down the Enchantress, and her faerie dragon armour gave me +10 AC with unchanged EV. So came the rematch with TRJ, with a very different result.

After that I finished Swamp, and went to Zot. With invisibility, it is much easier than normal. The Zot:5 ending was average (I used curare vs the guardians, it is very good!), and the ascension was probably the easiest ever (no Pan lords).

My 45th win, 30th online.

Mummies suck, I'm very glad I won this one. Also, I'm on a streak now!

Thanks! No idea what's next, I really hate all of the the remaining 3 species. So I'll probably abandon the "all species" project for now.

I have four species wins, total: De, Op, Fe, and now Fo, so it's a strange coincidence that the three you have left and hate so much are pretty much the only one's that I've played and won with.

There were three hair-raising moments you might enjoy watching. Long before his becoming nearly invincible, I was trying to grab the silver rune and my foray into Vaults:5 led to what I was sure would be his death, but I somehow managed to make him survive. Following that, I was after the Abyssal rune as my ticket into the offered Trove, and, boy, what an extended cluster that was when I finally arrived at the vault in Abyss:4. After that, it became pretty smooth sailing, as I picked up tons of life-saving evocables and mastered the nuclear spells, but at last, as I was sweeping through the hells to grab the final four runes, my encounter with the serpent of hell was both surprising and nearly deadly. I'll let to you watch that yourself to see how I avoided certain doom. Moral of the story: Fo, while seemingly hobbled by stasis, has plenty going for it to make it fair. (Can't say the same for Fe, though.)

congratulations on a mummy win, i am still trying for that one. had a good one going, but it got confused by tarantula, in confused state hit both friendly fire elementals for sweet double okawaru penance and eventually got fried by the last elemental, just as the confusion worn out.
