Yep, still trying OpFi, but left Fedhas for Kiku...

I have cleared Lair, Orc, Elf, Swamp, Snake but the rune chamber (need rF).

I'm happy with my items, even if I didn't find rF/rC by now. I'm wondering about weaponry. Elf gave me a rod of striking + a dwhip of venom. I have some ?EW and 2 scrolls of brand weapon ? Is it time to leave my pain whip ?

Also, what do you think about my spellset ? Am I missing something ?

Striking rod is extremely bad weapon. I am not even sure why it exists. Another newby trap I guess.

The Rod of Striking does 1d40 extra damage at evocation 27 and 1 mp is required for this extra damage to activate. Otherwise it's got the base damage of a club with whatever enchantments it happens to have. Both the 'club' damage and the 'evo' damage are reduced by AC separately.


Assuming the wiki isn't lying, I would probably pass on the Rod of Striking. Sounds like complete shit to me.

Aside from the very rare case of an artificer start finding an early rod of striking, I can't imagine a realistic case where it would be worthwhile to use.

And even in that 1 case, how long would it be worth using? Would you dump recharging scrolls on it?

I'd rebrand the dwip and start using it against dudes who don't feel pain: demons, undead, shadow dragons and whatnot. So I think getting Pain as a new brand is not ideal.

Also, funny: you're doing very well with those 2 good AC+ rings, but I would STILL feel uncomfortable playing a mostly-melee dude with 16 AC :D
