CiP: DDNe - My Next Quest

I tried a DDHe at first, but after a couple deaths decided it was too large a learning curve right now. DDNe is a close starting point, and I never really explored necromantic magicks as a DEWz, so there is still much very new. First attempt had a Kiku altar on D:2, and a Book of Unlife on D:3, but I murdered him by bullying an Ogre on D:4. The current one is safe, presently, but only because I'm here typing this and idling the game.

IMO Makhleb is a better choice for DDNe than Kiku

I'm not married to Kiku. It just seemed reasonable. Too bad, 'cause this one found a Kiku altar on D:3 already before the D:5 Temple that had Makhleb. :(

Could earn some wrath, and maybe some tourney points, I suppose. That'll be a nice curveball. :P

DDFi/Gl is easier than DDNe IMHO. The former can equip the heaviest armour and enjoy great AC and easier skill training.

While DDNe can equip medium armour and enjoy great EV plus vampiric draining plus a horde of skeletons. I very much doubt that a fighter is easier.

I'm okay with a caster pre-lair, even one with no natural healing. Not used to anything other than light armor anyway. :) Vampiric draining is working as a boost, and soon he'll have other means of recouping lost HP.

Apparently in both cases (I won one offline and another online) I started training a weapon skill as soon as I found something half-decent. Trained necromancy only to 6 (for Vampiric draining), then stopped. Only resumed the necro training much later, when I found an advanced book.

In the online version I found a +3 qstaff in D:3:

With DD lolz skills you can actually wear heavier armour before Lair and easily cast single school necro spell: my DDNe were casting in plate by lair lv.4 necromancy spells, while using some lighter (ring mail, or whatever decent was available). And yes they started training weapon skill very early, usually as soon as they found a decent weapon (e.g. the victorious one on D:4)
And being able to have undead minions since turn 1 and vampirici draining (it's an awesome spell) is much better than hoping in a plate (especially pre temple it's common no one is generate, plus' is not guaranteed you can take from the former proprietary)
