YASD- DECJ of Sif Muna - *Splat* Why Hellions :(

Heya ...

after my last *cough* furious victory with another melee-class i wanted to finally achieve victory with a spellcaster (best sofar was a 0.12 try that splatted in the runechamber)

so my decision fell onto a DECJ with the planned build of servitor-assisted massmurder. After certain splats on Sigmund, Grinder and eager Orc-priests i seem to get a good run going).

So far the adventure goes fine. An early (but yet unused) staff of Mucad Wu and a lucky book of wizardry on Lair:7 (i thought) gave me both the servitor, agony (for training necro) and haste.

The servitor already proved usefull against the hordes or dire elefants on lair:8 despite their tendency to forget their job.

Now i am in the process to run around the Orc-Branch, testing out the servitors pros and cons. So far .. it tends to forget/take a longer break after a few salvos .. seemingly like as if it needed to replensh mana first. Manual retargeting via T-A/T-W seems to help alot. A little unpredicting nonetheless. At least he does not mind to get some friendly fire now and them (as i still use IMB).

So as an interesting occurence i ran into a giant vault on Orc:3 .. filled with alot of hill giants + one mountain giant .. the servitor proved its value of blocking and killing (even when he is only equipped with IMB).

Now i got this as loot from the vault ... well .. frankly said ... it's somewhat coherent with my findings of my Qazlal game ..but cmon .. that is a bit ridiculous.

only the pure staves were in my posession before ... loot yes .. but this amount is abit .. um ridicolous?!

edit: 2 more came in my posession just at the next chamber ... .

nonetheless i am thrilled about the success so far and look forward to my first real hardhitting spell :)

Upcoming branches are spider and swamp.

I'm trying IMB right now, and I have to say it's pretty underwhelming for a level 4 spell. If I had a scroll of amnesia, I'd get rid of it. I gave it a long time, trying it repeatedly against many types of enemies, and it's just unpredictable and weak, IMO.

Archmagi robe, gourmand amulet and an MP ring. Nice early finds, there! The weapons are bonkers, too. Enjoy the jackpot! :)

I wished i could use them :)

Try IMB with the .-Key ... it forces it to explode on target more often and does not miss .. the spell itself is great especially assisted by the battlesphere :-). On midterm IMB now usefully replaced "Magic Arrow" which i only used to guide the fire for the sphere. It almost feels military as if i tag something for a drone :). :mrgreen:

IMB itself on the servitor seems to be enhanced big time .. i saw him annihilating a iron troll in two hits ... plus it seems servitor based IMB got a much larger radius to explode (5*5 as it seemed to me)

At 50 power for both, IMB averages about 15.3 damage per hit (before AC), and Throw Icicle averages about 19 damage per hit.

But honestly, I find all of the level 3-4 single-target blasts underwhelming, but they do serve a purpose: you need something dead faster than you can manage with Searing Ray and without the quirks (and noise) of Fulminant Prism.

Also, if you have a abundance of perishable food (or no food clock), it's often better to cast higher-damage but less efficient blasts and channel up than to repeatedly cast lower-damage blasts. Of course, Battlesphere changes that calculus a lot.

And there one more reason that trumps all other reasons not to rush to forget the spell: his servitor will forget the spell too!

IMB is worse per power level, but also cheaper per power level than throw icicle, if you're training an elemental school already IMB will seem underpowered, if you are going straight conjurations IMB keeps pace, XP spent per damage done-wise

CIP- DECJ of Sif Muna - Oh noes a moth

further update now ... due to pressing problems

I cleared dungeon and went to get the first runes. Since i hate Swamp i just minimized the aproach and after a prolonged firefight involving me, 6-8 servitors with firebolt and IMB and about 15 Swamp dragons and 10+ hydras i succeded to take the rune uncontested.

Next Goal was going to Spiders Nest. I hate that place.

I managed to get down to Spider 5, mainly by taking shortcuts.
Now i got a problem. A ghost moth managed to evade 3 Firebolts i sent towards it and now leeched me dry. this freaking thing followed me up to Spider:4 and now continues to sting me quite hard.

It looks a bit critical as i only pushed fighting and dodging for a minimum amount (around 8-10 each). Regarding my ressources and due the fact that i did not explore Spider:4 much, i feel that TP might be an aweful choice.

in short: HEPL!!!! HLEP!!! HEEEELP!!! :o

What would you people suggest?

Maybe fog/heal wounds after invis, too, or would that be overkill? Gotta at least find a way to safely rest, maybe another up stairs nearby? This is why I normally clear places. Little good can come from a surprise retreat into unknown environs.

I did not know that ghost moths not only can't see invis, but also can't drain your MP if you're invis. That's a good reason to keep a potion handy, I'd say.

Fog does not help here. I would quaff invisibility, then heal wounds, then teleport and more heal wounds if needed.

mh so i quaff invis then heal then get away maybe? ... its basedamage is 18 .. so that might save me ..IF it does not hit for strong poison as well


TP sees like an awfull idea as i did not explore the dungeon and spider tends to swarm you really fast ..

lets see if the invis _heal tp is working out

Got away! thanks for the advice .. i now got rid of IMB .. replaced it with iron shot and now will seek revenge on the moth ... servitor loaded with BoF and IS will surely kill it :) never again attack a moth without summoning servitor before :)

Iron shot at full MP, keeping fingers crossed. Generally, I like to have an elemental cloud under it while I'm doing that, also. Not to mention an escape route. Should take 2-3 hits to kill it.

CIP- DECJ of Sif Muna - 2 down more havoc to wreck :)

so ... on with the journey!

Despite the lacking of intelligence and skill on the side of the controlling entity ... let's call it .. human ... the char still lives and is preparing onwards .. Potions got replenished and scrolls reorganized.

The XL is 17 with a healthy 100hp and 51Mana (due to magic power ring) .. stats are a bit shattered but i intend to turn that away with a restore ability potion asap.

The main DPS-Setup by now is composed of Bolt of Fire and Iron Shot supported by battlesphere and spellforged servitor. This guy btw really rocks with those point defense-spells like iron shot ... its awe-inspiring to see what they murder with it. better options like LCS did not show up yet but i hope in sif ...

Support Spells are Haste, Deflect Missiles (daaamn it is up for a freaking long time) and an slowly improving controlled blink.

Armor is the old Robe of the archmagi from earlygame + an stealth+ and fire helmet :).

Jewellery is set to gourmand, magic power and some artifact giving MR++, ST+2 and InT+4.

Weapon still sucks somehow being an Artefact-Quarterstaff with freeze and Int+3 (funny enough that it is called "Quarterstaff of Trogg's Reproof"). It could be exchanged with Mucad Mu (but i was not able to fit in the neccessary 2 digit invo-skills and the nescessary clarity-intrinsic).

Tactics:

Summon servitor - Haste Servitor - Haste self - annihilate.

In the stash is lying a corrosion-amulet .. so i am thinking about either tackle slime for the first time ever or going depths/vaults.

What would the nice people here suggest to support the cause of my first ever caster win which i definitely plan to go for 5+ runes.

Lessons in developement and/or strategy are looked upon thankfully.

short term id go for weapon skill (staves or m&f) and earth/fire to 5 at least (ur main attack spells with 6% fail!?) and stop on spellcasting / conjurations

maybe also evocations for wucad mu/crystal ball, u might wanna check at which evo level they get good (crystal ball 15+). (theres a wiki table)

long term fire storm or glaciate both are conj/element so significantly easier to reach lvl 9 spells than the others. firestorm is best imo because of the range. crystal spear is ofc conj/earth too, but shatter/nado arent so well..depends ofc which books u find/get

and more dodging also pretty important.. lvling to 12 at least is pretty cheap compared to ur spellcasting and conj :P hf

just my opinion maybe ive overlooked something or dont know better ;)

I think the only real reason to ever train Conjurations over 15 or so is if you plan on casting Firestorm / Glaciate, or maybe for casting Lehuib's Crystal Spear / Chain Lightning if you you're going to ignore Shatter / Tornado.

(disclaimer: I'm not really sure if spell power has a significant effect on the servitor. But if it does you probably need to train more summoning then!)

Also, you won't really get any more MP by training Spellcasting. There is currently a hard cap on your natural MP gain, and I'm pretty sure you will hit that cap in a few levels, and there is very little to gain by trying to hit it earlier. So the reason to train spellcasting is to get more spell levels and to reduce hunger. Given that you're not using 9 of your levels (you should memorize more utility spells! If you need to forget them later you can use Sif's power) and have an amulet of the gourmand, you probably don't need those benefits either.

Incidentally, your skills influence what sorts of gifts you get from Sif. So, for example, by not training Earth magic, you are making it less likely you will ever get LCS from one of her gifts. You'd much more likely to get it if you had both your Conjurations and your Earth magic contributing to the odds.

I just reread the former posts ... would LCS/CL be a valid combo for servitorbased tactics? Or should i rather go into deep Evo(for Mucad MU/Crystal Ball) + firestorm with LCS/OoD-supported servitors?

*Splat* at the end too much cockyness demanded it's price again ... the assault on Elfen Halls proved easy at first but Elf:3 brought the infamous elven demonologists.
The very last pack of them i tried to tackle aone without servitor just by hastespamming Orb of destructions.

The target did not only managed to evade two of them, but in the sme time created a Green Death, followed by a hellion. On the wing a Priest advanced.

The End was rather quick. Green Death threw a poisonous cloud which pierced my defenses with red poisoning while the hellion hellfired away.

The extra priest took the chance to smite and ..

*pow*

Lessons learned:
Never leave house without servitors ... never be cocky in ELF:3.
Sleep well poor prince, thy path will be walked again soon.

But it was a fun game .. Servitor on haste and Orb is quite freakishly fun :)

I admit i did not pay much attention to cblink after i picked it up, since i tried to go for more offensive capabilities.

A mistake i wont repeat.

What i witnessed is, that Servitors have quite a strange attention span. I constantly had to refocus him on his job bei either t-a or t-w. Because he simply forgot that there are new enemies after he killed of a wave ...

BTW: Ironshot and Orb of Destruction + occasional Bolts of Fire were hillarious in effectiveness ... had an combined multitype troll/oger/dire-elephant ambush that we just splatted without getting killed ... talking of 15-20 really tough monsters advancing from 6 tiles away :-D

Defence is veeeeery important. You were surprised about getting pounded by a ghost moth; I wouldn't be if I had AC 11 and EV 16. It's easy to feel comfortable blasting away with your full MP pool, until its empty.

Just train dodging and fighting nonstop after level 8.

ok i will do better next time ... ironically amything but higher hp would not have helped me ... besides sevitor out haste and backtrack ... green death really is a nasty one esp. with hellfire and smite artillery in support :(

Not sure if you know this or not, but the enemy's summoned monsters would disappear if you killed the caster, so if you still have a shot to take down the caster, you can do what I do, which is ignore whatever is summoned. They also disappear after a time, so if you retreat and come back, the summons would be gone, too.

Aule: in Fact i did that but missed badly .. and since the green death was laying a poison cloud ontop of me i did not get away anymore ... well .. as i said .. next time it will be Servitor haste and BACKOFF!!

Did anyone play this style before and found a way to reset the targeting block without all the time going t-w, t-f after he annihilated a wave and another comes in?
