Is there something I am missing? with heroism on I've got 17 skill in bows, +4 bow in hand and my damage output is shit, I miss most of times and when I do hit it barely scratches (for that skill investment). My most effective weapon are needles.

i also tried some CeHu and CeAm today, and i think in the long run crossbows might be the better choice for centaur! the biggest one has better base dmg, and centaur has lots of STR so u could go heavy armor + high str (crossbow has better str weight, and centaur has bad EV/spellcasting anyway)

if u go bows i think its quite important to raise the skill higher than 12. dont save points there, its by far the highest apt

playing bows is hoping for the piercer unrandart imo

on webtiles i saw some 0.15 centaurs doing zigs lately, and they all used crossbows

just my 2 cents, im trying to figure out those damage formulas myself atm. and ofc slaying is op in this game and would help even with a shortbow

edit: didnt mean heavy armor:P but mediocre with good GDR like fire/storm/pearl dragon armor can get decent AC with a barding.

crossbow should be especially good with oka (speed) or speed brand?! and bows better with slaying.. im currently on CeGL starting out with poles.. have high STR that way and will try this (get xBows later)

Eh, I just got a CeHu to extended, then killed him via stupidity, but long bows do really good damage. Still, you'll want some melee skill. With armor, in my opinion, the heavier the better (that your STR can support) on a centaur. Armor skill is especially valuable on a centaur, because bardings have 4 base AC, and because while you only get half the base AC from body armor, you get the full AC bonus from armor skill.

So bows work, and they'll keep getting better, but I think because the combat is a little slow with them, they feel weaker than they really are. You should see a nice improvement when you find a long bow.

As far as skills, I'd say get some melee skill for whatever the best melee weapon you've found is, and train some dodging for now. After you start seeing your EV go up a few points, get some armor skill until you get 1 or 2 more AC. Also, get some invocations, you want your oka powers at a fairly low fail rate.

I sort of disagree with what the previous poster said, I wouldn't bother getting much more bow skill until you find a longbow, don't worry about needing to find an artifact bow, any longbow will be quite powerful, and don't worry about GDR on armor. Speed brand and finesse are equally helpful for longbows and crossbows, but obviously you're already invested in bows, and it's a fine choice, so I wouldn't think about switching to Xbows.

As far as stats, I'd personally increase STR to 18 or so, and put the rest into dex, and forget about spellcasting for the time being, but that's up to you. My last centaur was casting phase shift and regen in crystal plate armor, and I didn't put a single point into int, but I also didn't have those spells online until pretty late in the game.

CeHu died, long live the CeGl. Got nice lajatang and acceptable bow. I wish I went xbows cause combat with bows feels somewhat slow. With amulet of faith on oka gifts ammo every 3 minutes
