CiP: DSAr of Qazlal -> YAVP (5 runes)

So, I have been experimenting with Demonspawn Artificers of Qazlal. The weapon flexibility appeals to me, the sexy demonspawn powers appeal to me, and the +3 invocations aptitude for Qazlal appeals to me.

So for now I have some curiosity about how far into the game crosstraining is still worth it. I have trained sufficient mace & flails to get to minimum delay for a morningstar based on this handy +10, +10 morningstar of crushing, SInv, and rPois I found. But I just killed Agnes and found an even more lovely +4, +5 lajatang of electricity. Is it worth crosstraining to use this instead or is it much too late to consider it?

Hmm, I'd say you've trained a tad too much Invo, and should stop training Evo. Your defenses look kind of low. IMO your priority now should be to train Fighting and one of Dodging or Armour.

Your +6 scale mail is sort of ok, but don't you have any dragon armour? Assuming you haven't used Qazlal's final gift yet, you could go with FDA or IDA and use Qazlal's resistance gift to cover the vulnerability. MDA or SwDA should also be fine I think.

Regarding weapon, either is fine I think. Obviously lajatang will do more damage, so switch if you feel you need more offense I guess. Skill investment won't be a lot. But IMO work on your defenses first. And maybe learn some spells if you have useful low level ones.

Well, since I am following Qazlal, I am essentially using invocations as a source of some of my major forms of offense, with the goal of eventually getting it to 27 for some pretty massive damage punches. I ended up continuing to play last night, and this is where I am at now:

My original plan was to do something like you suggested with armor, and dive into FDA or IDA with the gift to cover the vulnerability, but I only have one enchant armor scroll at the moment, which means that building them really won't do anything for me. Luckily I have found some pretty awesome resistance rings so I am pretty covered by resistances for now.

After I max out invocations and finish the Depths and vaults: 5 I am going to make a decision about how many runes to go for. If sticking with 3 I will probably switch my training to armor and drive it up to about Fighting levels and then train them for equal parts for the rest of the game. Otherwise I will probably switch my amulet of faith to one of resist mutation, start training lajatangs to get it on the line and farm the Abyss for peity, as I will really need it after taking of rMut.

I currently have 0 potions of cure mutation though, so if I am still short of them after the next section I am probably just going to accept that this is a three rune game.

I also have not found any weapons that are better for me than my mace, but between me evocables and Qazlal's powers I have managed so far.

As for spells, as you can see I already have picked up regeneration, but I also have the translocations gammut available and haste in a book in Snake: 3.

So I decided that the distortion brand was obnoxious enough and I hate it enough that I did not want to play the x more hours required to go through extended, even though I liked the character and felt he was pretty strong.

Qazlal may be too powerful, but I acknowledge I am not aware enough of game balance to be able to correctly determine that. Yay for my second win!
