Low HP is super, super crappy. Today's lesson: berserk at the slightest provocation. Also check their weapons for magicalness.
But man, +13 slaying was REALLY fun. Eviscerating orc knights as a housecat is pretty satisfying.
Also, who needs AC when you have ridiculous evasion, literally nothing connects with this fella.

Rings of slaying don't speed up attacks so wearing +5 ring of dexterity and training more UC than Dodging could make the character more powerful IMHO.

That's not very good advice IMHO.

"literally nothing connects with this fella" isn't true, a dtrident of electrocution connected just fine. :3 I guess you learned a valuable lesson though: use your bombs even if you think that stray bullet won't hit you, because it probably will.

It would be ridiculous beyond all belief to not wear the +6 or +7 slayrinks on this cat, and somehow even more ridiculous to wear dex rings over them.

Don't forget I suggested to train UC instead of Dodging along with removing the +7 ring. For OP character rings of slaying were optimal indeed.

I really wish you guys would stop snipping at each at any opportunity. In any event it wasn't the build that killed the OP

To the OP: in this situation I don't know that Berserk was even your best option (though we don't see the turns before you died except for the very last 6). If there was another target to jump at maybe that would have saved you, as could maybe just running away? Did you notice the demon trident of Electrocution before he hit you with it?

Well, I really wish people would not mislead new players about the importance of slaying or suggest that it could possibly be a better idea to wear dex over it as a cat-sized race with extremely good dex.
Regardless I just sort of noticed no one addressed the actual thing that killed him.
Shoals is a pretty dangerous place to be at, particularly when you're a cat and other options like exploring the dungeon further are available. Log does show you were using BiA often which is good, although TH seems very underused and you should probably use that more because it's pretty great and helps in a lot of situations.

Berserk isn't the solution to everything but indeed when you're a FeBe and you can invoke a total +23 slaying plus haste it's a rather handy tool, so I assume most of the berserk uses were more or less cases where berserking made sense.
Still, totally should've bailed in some way when you saw an impaler with a branded dtrident (or an impaler at all, really) or at very least called a bro.

Yes, I was wrong. Character with more UC (17 instead of 15) and less Dodging (16 instead of 19) with Dex ring (the same EV 36) deals less damage than character from OP.

yeah, i always focus on unarmed over dodging and fighting on febe, imo it's safer overall

but i completely disagree about wearing +dex over slaying

Yes, I was wrong, slaying is better for the character. I expected more than +3 EV from +5 Dex.

Shoals was dangerous but I'd explored almost all of Dungeon, i believe, further down the baddies were getting bigger and I wasn't sure if I could take them.

TH didn't see toooo much use this game. 1-2 piety is negligible, regeneration and MR are awesome, but if I felt I didn't need it I didn't use it. Mostly used to wait out "lethal" poison and recover after a berserk. (If I'd used it at the beginning of the fight several turns ago I might have survived, lol)

You should use TH the moment you see something with dangerous hexes/banishment && your MR is not +++.. or better or the moment your HP drops below maximum and it's a non-trivial fight. Free hp is gooood. MR too. If you pop it early it's like a potion of heal wounds materialized out of nowhere.
