I managed to become graced by the RNG with a hilarious combo. Demonspawn which got Blood on Fire mutation by XP level 5 AND monstrous mutations :) The game is an absolute blast. Unfortunately I tinker with init.txt because when I play spellcasters I like to have my 'a' spellslot as an TAB autofire. I learned Blink at 97% spell fail around D:7 or 8, and immediately returned to setting everything on fire :). And it happened. As I pressed TAB trying to mangle a kobold I was sent to abbys by trying to cast my 'a' spellslot. I was XL8 by that time and I couldn't let that character go. So i used wizard mode to come back. No cheats whatsoever, just returned and took Blink out of 'a' spellslot. Take a look:

Click edit to edit your post, and replace the little tags around your character dump with code tags. Put

[co*de] (without the asterisk)

Just in front of the start of your character dump, and

[/code]

at the end of your character dump

This fixes formatting issues and makes it a lot easier to read.

Not sure if you want advice, but:

Don't carry around strategic consumables (scrolls of enchant armour, scrolls of enchant weapon, etc.)—if you aren't going to use it in the heat of battle, don't lug it around. Stash it in a dedicated stash area (usually Temple or Lair:2) or just drop it in a corner and use CTRL+F to retrieve it.

I'd get more invocations on this guy. On Ds you can get invo up to 12 or 14 easily, which will give upheaval and disaster area a lot of oomph. Then I'd just keep on improving your core skills after that (unarmed, dodging, armor, fighting).

Then later on you could go even higher thatn 14 on invocations, with Qazlal you probably won't regret it, as his active abilities get even stronger at high invocations skill.
