Demonspawn Fire Elementalist of Sif Muna

I posted an earlier version of this guy a week or two ago. I picked him back up recently, so here is the latest. It's my first real attempt with a demonspawn and it hasn't been too bad. The aptitudes are horrible, but overall having more HP than a typical caster has been very nice. I have a source of see invisibility, so I opted to take a stab at Spider (ghost moths can go to hell). I've killed two of the blighters so far, though it was due more to shadow creatures than anything else. Not looking forward to the vault at the bottom. Oh, and I cleared Elf:3 before I did any rune branches. It wasn't too hard, though I had some close calls with summoners. I've also got books with rMissile/Haste buffs that I'd like to train to use after spider. I've got bolt of fire + magma that I'm considering learning as well. I have yet to cast delayed fireball, so I can't comment on how effective it is yet.

Delayed fireball is just a panic button, it does not cost mana and is instant so I would train Charms for RMsl/Regeneration/Haste first, Delayed Fireball is not spammable.
Also I would train Armour to 2.8 or 5.5, it will give 1 or 2 AC which is your main defense.

Nice whip! There's probably a buckler somewhere, which you should be wearing.

Sandman's right about training armour for a few easy points of AC. I'd also put some stat ups into dex (maybe one into str), moving forward, so that by end game you can achieve something like 30 AC, with low to mid-20s EV (the more the better obvs), without having to put a ton of experience into dodging.

I wouldn't train any more spell casting, you got lots of spell levels. Your success rates for all current spells are very good, especially considering you have wild magic 1, which will incidentally give all your conjurations a nice punch. With miscast protection your 32% failure on delayed fireball is fine. You cast that spell outside of combat anyway, you can get away with very high spell failure.

So my advice: Pick up enough armor skill for a couple extra AC. Train a bit more necromancy to power up you death whip (~10 or so would be good). Then train charms for haste.

Overall your character is looking good.

I finished Spider without much trouble, which pleased me immensely. I'm wearing the +2 buckler of Impressiveness {rElec MR++ Acc-3} that I had in my inventory. I took it off to test a 2H weapon and forgot to put it back on for the dump. I took armor to 5.5 as suggested and now I am working on charms. I'll pump necromancy up a bit more after haste is online.

How do you guys feel about my prospects for making this a 15 rune win? Melee+sticky flame is beastly, but I know that my pain & flame approach is going to fall on its face once I get into Hell/Pan. Thoughts on how I should diversify if I opt to go for extended?

I don't like Sticky Flame in extended neither, it's too slow. Bolt of Fire/Magma is fine.
I like Controlled Blink in extended but I am not sure how much XP it takes with Wild Magic.

Wow missed that buckler with MR++, very nice.

Once haste is online and necromancy slightly higher, this character is basically good for 3 runes (you will need more investment in defenses but not *that* much more), so the option to develop him with an eye toward extended, if you want to go for more runes, is certainly on the table. I'd get iron shot to an okay spell failure while still in the "standard" portion of the game, and obviously there are more utility and defense spells (phase shift in particular) that would be worth getting.

You'll eventually find a demon whip or maybe even an eveningstar with a good damage brand (electrocution, flaming, freezing, vorpal) which you can enchant up and put in your b slot to switch when things are pain immune. Once you get into hells/pan/tomb that will simply become your main weapon obviously.

With Sif I assume you have access to lots of spells, and your library will only continue to grow.

When all your basic stuff is looking good, I'd recommend getting b. revivification and then consider eventually getting death's door. It will take time with wild magic 1, but it is worth it to use some V:5 and Slime experience to work toward revivification at least. Even at rather bad success while training necro for it, the spell isn't just a waste of 8 slots if you can carry around some extra !brilliance to make revivification work in a pinch. Especially since you got a cloak of preservation, and so you don't have to worry about potion destruction.

Other than those high end spells, just focus on getting good defenses and extra fighting for more HP for extended. Note that if you end up using an eveningstar you will want 16 M&F skill for it.

EDIT: To clarify, get revivification first. Then you can consider if/when to get death's door. Revivification is level 8 pure necro right now in Trunk tho :(
