Re: Cip: Eesdeseseserdt, the Troll Beserker.

Don't go to Orc, keep exploring the Dungeon until you find Lair and go there.

Your skill training is fine. After a little more Unarmed I would get Fighting and Armour, wearing the fire dragon armour (and being cautious around potential cold until finding cold resistance).
Won all race/bg, unwon (online): Nem* Hep Uka

Re: Cip: Eesdeseseserdt, the Troll Beserker.

I don't recommend going into Orc. In Orc, you'll get weapons that you don't want to use and body armor that you can't actually wear, only only at the very bottom where you will definitely die if you try to go there will you find anything else that might actually be of interest to you. Keep looking for Lair, where you will find a lot of melee brutes that you can mostly claw to death and then eat, and end up with a whole lot more xp than you had before.

I would probably feed some xp into throwing. Once you get to 8 throwing, Trog will start gifting you javelins and large rocks instead of just more melee weapons that you will never use anyway. Then you can probably turn throwing off, because a stack of large rocks will kill anything for a long time regardless of whether you have 8 throwing or 27. There are some enemies that you don't want to punch, and infinite large rocks is a pretty cheap way for a troll berserker to get them out of the way.

Wearing the fire dragon armour is a bit risky in the main Dungeon because of intelligent enemies that might have unexpected cold attacks, for instance centaur packs with branded arrows, but it should be pretty safe for Lair. The only cold-using opponents you're likely to find in there are uniques and the denizens of vaults, either of which you can run away from and avoid because they won't suddenly spawn behind you. The AC it provides should make a noticeable difference.

It's probably a good idea to start working on developing your support and defense skills. More unarmed combat is always good, but it's cheaper for your character to get 5 levels of fighting or armour or dodging than it is to get 2 levels of unarmed combat.

Re: Cip: Eesdeseseserdt, the Troll Beserker.

As a troll fan; Orc is a lot of fun, there's no real loot for trolls, yes. But most the Orcs have the consistency of wet paper to troll claws, I supposed even more so to TrBe (I'm not a Trog fan). My only advice is, if the High Priest or Sorcerer appears, smash them before they can summon (and if they get to summoning demon before you reach them, just run in your pre-lair state you can't take out the demons). Orc Knights will be a little bit of a challenge and Warlords are another 'just run' right now, later they are fine for melee range though. As much as people say the Lair is just fine...without rPois try to avoid the Spiny Frogs and the Black Mambas. And for now, just avoid the hydras, period. [Your claws will rip off a head causing them to regain HP and sprout two more and...you're just unlikely to win.]

I think, a troll has a good way to handle hydras (and spiny frogs and whatever else): large rocks. Is there none in the dungeon?

If you train up your throwing to 8, Trog will start gifting large rocks.

It's true...if you have them, they are just REALLY rare until you start seeing Cyclopes or get them as Oka gifts. My point was don't let them in melee range though, NOT don't kill them with wands or Large Rocks if you have them.

Re: Cip: Eesdeseseserdt, the Troll Beserker.

If this character doesn't make it, consider starting as TrHu and convert to Trog. You're guaranteed the large rocks and trolls will still steam role the dungeon until finding an alter to Trog.

I recommend not considering that. While Hu is better than Fi or Gl or Mo or whatever, starting with berserk and extra piety is much more useful.

I think I'll start putting some points into throwing, until I reach 8.
I'm also going to go grab all the large rocks I've seen so far...

Re: Cip: Eesdeseseserdt, the Troll Beserker.

The white imps/ice dragon are probably guarding a ice cave - it is a timed portal to a bonus floor with bonus loot but possibly quite hard monsters, and generally have plenty of ice damage. Wearing a FDA in there without some other source of rC+ is suicide. Otherwise, the FDA is much better.

Wandering shrooms are usually best avoided, unless you have clarity or are high enough level to have a great deal of hp. Ranged attacks are great for taking them out, I think you'll do a lot better on trolls that have large rocks and once you figure out what things to use them on. They're quite powerful, and can deal with hydras and such entirely on their own, as long as you have ~5 or more. Wands can help if you start to break rocks and don't have enough to finish a hydra off.
