Hey Tavern,

First time poster, long time browser.

This was the deepest I'd ever made it and I can blame my death on the fact that I was trying to gain Piety with TSO after leaving Okie. I was doing this by dropping into Hell and easily taking down some demons, popping out when health got low (no more regen ) then popping back in. Unfortunately on my last pop out and heal, Okie sent some nasties that included a Titan. I was doing okay whittling him down, but he got me when I got cocky. I liked the privileges that TSO offered, however I can't help but think I started on him too late and raising piety for him in Hell wasn't the most effective way to go about it. I think next time, I'll clear out and get 3 runes, but leave crypt for raising TSO piety. That a decent idea?

I think it was a bad idea to convert to TSO. Your 2 highest skills were Stealth and Stabbing, those would be almost useless with TSO. Training Spellcasting when all your spells are hungerless and you have 23 spell slots left and training Short Blades above 14 (with sabre) wasn't optimal. Train more Fighting/Dodging next time. Fog could have saved you. I usually train Controlled Blink for extended and Haste before Extended.

I realized that stealth and stabbing wouldn't be good except for against demons and undead. I am still working on my training optimization. I left on spellcasting because I figured there would be some higher level spell I would be looking out for. What you say makes sense though and I'll keep those in mind for my next character. Do you think I would have been okay if I went into Zot with Okie and stayed a stealthy character? I think I had gear to cover most resistances.

Don't train for "future" whatever, especially for spells you don't even have. Yes, Oka is much better than TSO in Zot. I usually clear Zot 1-4 before converting from Oka to TSO.

Farming TSO piety in Crypt is indeed a very good idea. clearing Crypt can be enought to get full piety.

The honest reason I was playing .10 was because I hadn't played in so long. I didn't bother to update before I started playing. When I noticed the update was significant, I just continued with the SpSt. I have since updated and I must say, I miss the stalker.

I switched to TSO based on a suggestion from an outside source. I questioned the switch as well, but was convinced that it wouldn't count against me fighting demons. It didn't take me long to realize how pointless it all was because of the glowing aura that alerts all to my presence. This character served as a great learning experience for me.

TSO is cool with you stabbing demons, but your TSO halo destroys your stealth even for demons and undead, and demons aren't a major concern in a 3-rune game and undead only have a few nasty enemies (although those ones are really nasty admittedly). Okawaru is a perfectly good god to win with. Though you had some reasons to consider switching away from Oka, switching to TSO was a really bad move. re: Spellcasting skill, you'll notice that your spell casting was really high while certain spells you had memorized were not yet very successful. Fewer levels in spell casting but more in hexes, earth, etc., would have increased power of those spells and their success rate much more effectively.

All the same, obviously you were doing a lot of things right tactically if you made it that far. Update to newest and give it another go. If you go for another stabbing-focused spriggan, I'd suggest trying out Dithmenos, a new god.

Thanks for the tip on casting skills. I had spellcasting high to avoid hunger cost and didn't focus enough on success or power through the spell schools. In the future, I'll make sure to up spell schools as well.

Well, I've done switches to TSO with a stabber a couple of times for a hw quickblade. You just clear crypt and it's yours. And it's not like you can't stab undead with confusion or a very high stealth, that works even with halo. One of those times I had a rod of inaccuracy + halo, so it wasn't hard.
