CiP: Deep Elf Wizard of Sif Muna

I've been up and down with this guy and he's starting to actually feel strong. I'm working on defenses + getting invisibility online at the moment. Since there's no reasonably simple way to evaluate weapon effectiveness, I'm looking for advice on that, armor, and spell choice. I haven't played casters much since .12 and I'm finding it quite challenging. Thanks!

Looks good, especially considering haste, but very squishy. You sure there are no better pieces of amour?(I'm sorry to repeat it every thread but vanilla gloves and such can be +2) It's important to have at the very least 15-20 AC, so that every single monster doesn't beat the crap out of you.

Yes, I'm very squishy. The answer to your gloves question is no, I've found two pair and I am carrying both of them in this dump. I'd love to up my AC. I have an elven ringmail and that mottled dragon hide + a bunch of various branded heavier armors. What do you think about that hat? I don't like the idea of having all of my mana sucked away when something hits me, so I'm not wearing it yet.

Since you are squishy and you have cBlink, mp would probably save you more likely than guardian spirit. If you can enchant a mottled dragon hide to a +6 mottled dragon armour, it will be pretty good.

Haven't you found any enhancer staff that could be useful ? Conj/Fire are good ideas
You should stop training spellcasting for a while and improve def/spellpower
You have 0 Fire magic, that's quite strange for a fireball-er ! It can kill a lot of monsters
You also want a bolt-kind spell (Bolt of fire ie), Iron shot can be good too (but doesn't hit a line)

I am not sure I like your strategy of going for Invisibility. You have the ring of invis, and it wouldn't take a huge investment in Evocations to get it to around 50%. What do you want to use invisibility for? If it's your "oh shit" card so that you can disappear from a bad fight, it's going to be less and less useful over time as you find more enemies that can sInv. Invisibility, to me, is something I use in carefully planned instances (like taking out an Oklob plant without rCorr), and I can spend 4 turns evoking it without issue in that context. I could see it if you were a stabber, but I really think there are better ways to use that exp/those spell levels.

First thing I would do if I were in your shoes would be Ctrl + F Enchant and look for any available source of scrolls of enchant armour. If you find any, pour them into that mottled dragon hide. You can win the game in +6 Mottled Dragon Armor with a DEWz.

I would also suggest you pick an elemental school of magic and make a serious investment in it. I don't have a ton of experience with the pure conjurations spell set, but where I have used them, they've struck me as woefully inferior to fire and ice. Getting Bolt of Fire and Fireball (or Bolt of Cold and Freezing Cloud) to a good power level would give you most of the offense you need to get through Zot 5.

You seem to be playing a much more balanced play style than I do, so the Storm spells are probably out of the question. Nothing wrong with that - I just prefer much more offensive minded DEWzs.
