CIP CeHu Lair in travel-excluded area;guarded by oklob plant

I found the entrance to the Lair...and it is guarded by an oklob plant. I'eve never been forced to face one of these before (they're usually travel-excluded and too high level for me) to progress. How do I handle this?

First throw a stone at the Lair entrance while out of LOS of the Oklob, in order to make sure the stair case isn't a mimic (lol).

Then I would ID those wands. If you got a bolt attack wand, you can whittle the oklob down while standing behind plants that block its shot (just make sure you don't wipe out the plants before you kill it). Also note that Oklobs are fairly vulnerable to hexes, so if one of those wands is enslavement you can probably charm it then sneak by safely (just remember you will have to deal with it when you exit Lair again). However if you hex it, then it may get one shot in at you. Also if those wands aren't helpful, you will also have to expose yourself to some of its acid shots, either while trying to kill it or else while running past it.

Try not to expose yourself to too many Oklob shots—it is very unlikely, but a single hit from the oklob's acid could bring this character down to like 20 HP if you fail the cloak test and get extra damage from lack of barding. So you are going to want to quaff !agility, use heroism, and use deflect missiles from the rod of warding, before going for it, unless you can cheese it with wands from careful positions behind the plants. But with those precautions in place, I doubt you'll get hit even once diving down the stair case, just try to keep a plant between you and the oklob as much as possible.

The first thing doesn't work because the problem with it is obvious (to wit, item/feature mimics *are* the corresponding things until you learn they aren't. This actually led to a bug a long time ago where you could cblink onto a branch entrance and get mutually exclusive runes).

Alternatively, have you seen any invisibility potions at all? You should be able to just waltz past it, or even shoot it from a distance if you like (make sure to quaff before it notices you because they still can fire in the general direction of where you were). Failing that, Deflect Missiles does sounds like a good idea.

I'm sure it's too late for this, but: why do you need to handle the Oklob at all right now? I'd go to Orc instead to collect XP and hope for a useful shop or two on O:1-3. If that started feeling too dangerous, I'd take a few more levels of D. You'll find a more guaranteed way past the Oklob eventually, or get splatted by something less immediately avoidable.

I agree with tedric. Go elsewhere for the moment, and come back when you are more resistant (use single-use armor because it will probably be coroded).

Or if you find a way to become invisible, it will be a piece of cake

Or if you have a wand of fireball, you can kill it out of LOS and feel " a bit more experienced"
