I have one big question for this character. Since I'm using Unarmed Combat, would it be a bad idea to wear those gloves? I know the claws are nullified by gloves, but I don't know how much damage I'd be missing out on. It might be better to have some AC, or the rF provided by those gloves. What say you, Tavern?

This build is pretty fun though. UC is surprisingly powerful and surprisingly, the Ring Mail hasn't had much of a negative effect on my casting. I could stand to use my Necromancy more often and I think I will soon. Agony is a great spell and I got a lot of satisfaction out of using control Undead of Josephine's slaves. I prayed for the Necronomicon, which might be silly, but Pain isn't really going to help me as I don't see myself switching to a weapon. I think the only spell a Ghoul can learn from the Necronomicon is Haunt, but even if that's true, it's a damn good spell to learn for this character. I haven't used it yet, but Tormenting stuff might be fun when there's a lot on screen.

I had to abandon Orcish Mines for now because Saint Roka is down there. I almost always finish Orc right after Lair, but he's just too dangerous.

So, other than the gloves question, I guess my other question is what should I be training? UC and Fighting seem pretty high for now. I'm thinking either Spellcasting/Summoning to learn Haunt, or Armor for more AC. What should be my priority here?

The rF isn't useful. You have a ring to swap in for when you need rF, and your current armour provides rF as well (though you should try to replace it with a better one). One pip of rF is all you want outside of Zot. Don't wear the gloves.
Training more Armour might be good for heavier armour (e.g. fire dragon armour) but unless you have something like that, it wouldn't be very good. Haunt will also take far too much Nec/Summ for it to make sense on this character (low Int, not using a robe). The Necronomicon is rather useless to you (and so is a pain weapon, but I would recommend weapon use on a Gh of Kiku in the future as it requires less Investment than UC while still being very strong). Dispel Undead, Regeneration, Agony etc. are the spells that are useful to this character, not the very high-Investment stuff.
Do you maybe have some books with useful charms? If you could get Swiftness, rMsl, Haste, etc. that would probably be useful. Otherwise, I would look for some better and heavier armour and train Armour, and if you can't do that, more Fighting and UC isn't necessary but won't hurt you either.

Okay, I cleared the Dungeon and have started focusing on my Necromancy for taking down big things. I haven't really used Agony since my second character that I've won with, so I forgot how great this spell is. I appreciate your advice and learned swiftness, though I don't really have any other accessory spells available to me. I have some questions now.

- I found a Mottled Dragon hide which I'm thinking of making my main armor. It has higher AC and a lower encumbrance rating than my ring mail (though no rF, ==). Should I use me EA scrolls on it, or am I overestimating it's value to my character? I know some might suggest a robe, but I use this character in Melee a lot and most of my casting is just to soften them up for melee, so I'm not interested in a robe. Also, if I do go with MDA, is it's AC bonus worth training armor some more? Also, should I hold out for a better armor like FDA, or would that impede my casting too much?

- Okay, so the rF gloves aren't worth losing my claws, but how substantial is the damage increase from claws? I'm mostly just curious.

- With the spell Death Channel, could I make spectral thigns out of corpses granted to me by Kiku? Or does it only work for corpses I've killed?

Still interested in answers to the above questions, but here's an update.

Cleared Snake Pit and Swamp down to their 4th floor. Well, cleared minus the 2nd floor on each. 2nd floor of Snake has Jorgrun and Frances running around, while Swamp:2 has my Draconian Abyssal Knight. That is going to be a near impossible fight for me as Agony and Pain don't harm player ghosts and melee with it is stupid since it has Distortion. It banished me once already, but I managed to escape. I know I could kill Frances and Jorgrun shouldn't be too hard with my MR options. I think I might have to leave the player ghost alone the whole game though.

I still haven't used the MDA, not just because I'm waiting for an answer, but because I realized I only have one EA scroll anyway.

Got killed by the Abyss. I had picked up the swamp rune and found myself in The Vaults. I was clearing it with absolutely no problem when I found the entrance to the Forest guarded by a bunch of spriggans and junk. One hit me with distortion. First hit banishes me. I saw an Executioner that immediately hasted. I popped Tele on sight, used agility and might and took him on. I killed him, but then the tele kicked in and took me somewhere bad and in low health. I popped tele again and quaffed healing until I just died while boxed in. Retrospectively I should've used the scroll of summoning.

Pretty bummed because that character had a good chance if it wasn't for the death sentence. I had the MR to resist banishment, but distortion just boned me.

Working on another GhMo of Kiku and I'm still really wondering what kind of armor I should use. I recently came into Ozocubu's Armor, which I know will work with a Mottled Dragon Armor, plus this will also help me avoid unarmed combat and spellcasting penalties, while offering moderate AC. Since Ghouls have a nice aptitude for Ice Magic, this could be pretty beneficial, especially since it'd get Simularcum going sooner.

So is MDA a good idea, or not? I'm not terrible at Crawl, though far from an expert and everything I've learned is telling me it's a good armor for this character, but I'd like some opinions. Here's the dump, if it matters:

Yes, UC has serious penalty in heavy armour and MDA is one of the best light armours.
No, Ozocubu's armour does not work with MDA (see description of the spell in game)

Ozo doesn't work with MDA anymore, MDA is really good though.

Some random thoughts that I had looking at your chardump:
Kiku gifts corpses so I would probably learn at least some spell that does something useful with those. I don't see what you have but Animate Dead allows you to create some reinforcements quickly (and heavier zombies hit pretty hard), Twisted Resurrection lets you create stair-using, potentially fast abominations (they heal only by eating corpses now, though, and the process takes time), Simulacrum is amazing but you don't have skills to cast it yet. You probably have one of those spells, right?
2 in Dodging is low. I know your apt and Dex are bad, but you can do better than 14 EV with a +4 EV ring.
I would use ?identify on /heal wounds because there are little things worse than /heal wounds fizzling on you in a critical situation.
Oh, and nice slaying ring. Swapping is annoying, but I guess 7 slaying is worth it.

If you have a good robe, not enough enchant armour scrolls to enchant MDA a lot and plan on getting Simulacrum online by training Ice Magic, a good robe (resistance, archmagi, rF) and Ozo's Armour would be a consideration as well though.

IMO it would be even more important for Agony. I spam Agony on any melee character I get it on, and that was my main thought when suggesting Archmagi. Right now he only has it at ####.

How recent is this MDA/Ozo's change? I'm playing a version of 14, but it says "Encumbrance rating of 5 or more" and MDA is a -4 encumbrance, yes? I'm not reading anything in the description saying it wont work with MDA in my game.

I have access to Simularcum, Animate Dead and Twisted Resurrection and animate dead is the next spell I'm going to learn, followed by maybe Phase Shift or Simulacrum.

I've ID'd the heal wand, but I rarely use the slaying ring as casting is too important. Like cerebov said, I abuse Agony on anything approaching for Melee.

MDA enc went from 4 to 5.
I love slaying, myself, and I too would feel like complete crap playing a game where it'd be optimal to remove a ring, agony things and then put it back on to beat them up.

Aaaand just like that, I found 3 more EA scrolls. I have a +3 MDA now and I'm wondering if I should train more dodging or Armor?

Armor is currently at 1.0 and Dodging is at 5.3. Does MDA have a high enough base AC that training armor is worth the skill investment?

You definitely want more than 5 Dodging by that depth yes.
You don't get a huge return for armour but you can grab a couple of easy AC points by training it some since it's really low right now.

All right, here's the newest dump. Doing well, but this is usually where I've been dying with this build. I know it's probably stupid, but I'm trying to get Haunt online. It's certainly feasible, though not necessarily the best course of action. I just kind of want to because it seems like a fun spell and if I don't do it with this character, I can't imagine myself doing it for a very long time. Other spells I'm interested in are Bolt of Draining, Simulacrum and Phase Shift, though I don't know how useful any of those would be. BoD seems like it would go well since I can blast things from behind my undead slaves without harming them, Simulacrum is just a great use of Kiku's corpses and Phase Shift is always nice for anything that engages in Melee.

Speaking of Melee, it carried me through the early and mid game, but I'm not sure if I should focus on Unarmed, Fighting or Dodging anymore since I usually don't engage in melee until something has been softened up with magic or allies. With this in mind, I'm just focusing on spells a lot, but with such low Int, I'm unconfident in this decision. That robe I found with the +5 Int is really nice too, but I think I'll stick with the MDA since I used all those EA scrolls. Two questions.

1. Can Oklob plants randomly grow in the dungeon? I could have sworn I fully autoexplored Lair:6, but now there is a random Oklob plant there.

2. What skills should I be focusing on? Trans for Phase Shift? ice for Simulacrum? Dodging for EV?

I don't know why, but this might be the most upsetting character death I've ever had. It was just so....pointless. I had way too many options and I just accidentally hit the attack key too many times. I'm so unreasonably pissed off right now. I doubt I will ever have a GhMo with more promising gear/consumables. That character was destined to ascend with the Orb, I'm just a stupid ***hole. Ugh. I've always known to be careful when Marked, but I've never had it bring so much death on me so fast.

That's too bad. I was just going to add that steam dragon armour is quite good if you are going to use Ozu Armour, since mda doesn't work with it anymore. The only other decent armour choice for that spell is troll leather armour.
