CIP MfGl of Fedhas -- demon trident or bardiche

This is my first time worshiping Fedhas. Yeah, so everyone is right about how strong wandering mushrooms are.

I got a demon trident of draining in the Lair:8 vault full of demons. I used my enchant scrolls on it. Then on the floor below the lair entrance, I found a bailey. The layout had 2 little islands you had to walk past while orc knights attack you with polearms from afar. It's a very clever design, and also really easy for a merfolk. Now I have;

a - a +5,+5 demon trident of draining (weapon)
e - a -1,+0 orcish glaive
H - a +0,+1 orcish bardiche

I also have:

b - a dwarven shield
E - a +0 buckler of poison resistance

At this point I can train shields and use demon trident & shield, or train polearms and use the glaive and then the bardiche. Which should it be?

Obviously use the demon trident now + buckler. I'd probably switch to the bardiche long term unless you feel like plinking away at OoF but you can kill them with demon tridents.

At this point you maybe want to train some Armour and use trident + buckler (trident is already at min delay and buckler penalty removed)
Are you doing a spell-less game ? If not it can also be the moment to learn some spells (blink, repel missiles, maybe swiftness but I think it sucks in 0.14, haste)...

yeah i would use the demon trident (great 1h weapon type), and definitely the buckler.. you need rPois. Using a 2H weapon is sexier to some, but there is no shame in using a shield. The protection really does help.

Yes, you should train armour to at least 7. A rule of thumb I use when training armor is look at the encumbrance rating. Ring mail is encumbrance rating 7, so I would train Armour to at least level 7.

Actually bonus AC from training Armour is A*B/22 where A is armour skill and B is total of base armour from body armour/cloak/helmet/gloves/boots. For example if you are wearing ring mail and all 4 aux slot armours, B equals 9 so you get A*9/22 extra AC, i.e. you need 2.45 Armour per AC so it is a good idea to stop training Armour at either 4.9 or 7.4.

well, I don't know about that bonus AC formula, I just don't like getting the message "your xx armour prevents you ... " I know my rule of thumb is not a formula, but it works for me to get a general idea of what I need to defray the encumbrance rating for casting / EV / to hit. Of course, strength helps greatly with this too. So since your strength is high, you need less Armour Skill, than say a Deep Elf caster.

This is the formula regarding adjusted body armour penalty.

2 × (body armour encumbrance rating)2 × (45 - Armour skill) / (5 × (STR + 3) × 45)

so if encumbrance rating is 7, 2 x 7(2) = 28 x (45- 7) = 32 / 5 x (19+3) x 45
28 x 32 = 896 / 4950 = .18

So the penalty for armour skill 7 is .18

adjusted to hit penalty is:
1d(Adjusted body armour penalty)

Adjusted evasion penalty
Barding ER/3 + Adjusted body armour penalty

Spellcasting Penalty
(25×Adjusted body armour penalty - Racial bonus + 25×Shield penalty - 20)/100

Then people probably shouldn't trust your advice since it's overwhelmingly the most important effect of armour skill.
