YAFAP (bog standard KoBe)
After countless failed attempts, my third (or fourth?) time in Zot, I finally managed to leave with the Orb (and four runes). In general, it was the smoothest run I've had this far; for instance, I only got two bad mutations in the entire game, one of them from excessive teleporting on the way up. I managed to find a couple of really useful items quite early on: I found the Fencer's gloves (+2, {EV+3 Dex+3 Acc+5}) in an antiques shop on D:11 and wore them right till the end; I think these gloves were one of those things that really did the game for me. A couple of thousand turns later, I was cast into the Abyss by Louise; at that point, I really thought I was done for, as I was only at XL 11 at that point and didn't have any way to speed myself up or levitation gear. So I ran, and when I couldn't run any further, I teleported. And then, bam! I ran into the rune, and found a gateway out soon after. Only to run into Nessos right after I got back to the dungeon (managed to teleport away safely, though). It must have been sometime around this point that I also got that sweet quickblade from Trog (was something like +3,+4; eventually, I enchanted it all the way to +9,+9) and things got quite easy from that point on. It still wasn't a complete breeze, though, as I did have a couple of really close calls: the closest one was when I ran into a bunch of orc high priests on O:4, who took me down to 4 hp; luckily, I managed to blink away and heal myself. By the way, speaking of blinking, I found a trove on D:17 that asked for six blinking scrolls; when I finally managed to scrape them together, it turned out to be one of those really pathetic ones with absolutely no good loot. Another close call was in the elf vault, where I was again nearly smitten to death. I learned my lesson there, though, and stocked up heavily on rN+ gear, so that I was fully resistant and could laugh the shadow dragons on V:8 in the face.
Some great stuff I saw and did:
- Berserking Mara to death. I took the conservative approach to killing some other uniques and summoned a couple of brothers in arms; in Mara's case, though, it was personal. I was still a bit surprised at how fast he went down, though.
- Boris slinging OOD-s at me. He got quite close to taking me down; I returned the favour by killing him not once but twice.
- Cool new holy things who tried to use fire to cleanse me of my wicked ways.
- Was extra careful with Trog's gifts this time, as in my last game, he gifted me a short sword of distortion (TROG!!!!!:rage:)
