This was a *fantastic* game, I was all set up to win every which way but Sunday, and then I died, not due to bad strategy or bad tactics, but because I didn't know the answer to a riddle which I had the answer to, but had no clues that I could use to solve.
So I'm as overpowered a one could possibly hope to be for the level I'm at, and as a CeHu with some spellcasting thrown in,I have Little trouble killing just about anything typically without taking a scratch, although I do have sufficient AC/Ev/HP to survive battles that do take me toe-to-toe without even sweating hard.
I am in the Vaults and pop down to level 2 and end up directly adjacent to a Tentacled Monstrosity who has me Constricted as I walk down the stairs, now optimally I'd drag him back upstairs because behind him there's a cloud of Nasties
All of whom are easily handle-able but not while stuck in one spot being wailed on by the lot because a stupid tentacled monstrosity has be constricted.
So I try to do what makes sense, I use a turn trying to go back up the stairs, monstrosity in tow. Only I can't break free, the cloud is just at the Edge of my LOS when I start this process, so I try again, no dice, So now I have a cloud of nasties 1-2 squares away and I'm still constricted, my HP isn't low yet (The monstrosity has done ~10 hp each round to me) but I forsee this going pear shaped quickly if I don't make my way out of here.
I have Blink and cTele (See my beautiful +cTele, +5/+6 slaying ring *sniff* I'll miss you) Which in my head at least has always been a "get out of constriction free" card, I figure with Centaur speed I can just run away from the bad stuff and circle back around to the stairs to flee with my nards intact.
No such luck, Blink does not help I am still constricted, It gives me a vague message about "But you feel like you might get another chance" when I do so, but I'm still stuck and now I have giants hitting me too.
I think maybe it's because I am using the spell, rather than a scroll, Was I mistaken in my rembering? I have two scrolls on me, Both produce the same results, Grr, WTH, now I'm down to about 70 Hp, I didn't *want* to use my teleport scroll, it's inefficient, and potentially dangerous with all that unexplored area, but you gotta do what you gotta do, so I read it, and with my Hit points dangerously low, I start quaffing healing potions to keep me alive until the teleport kicks in, potion, 1 round, potion, 2 rounds, Ok, usually it's 2-3 rounds, potion, 3 rounds, no Still here, I'm down to 26 hps at this point, quaff another potion, die, teleport never happens.
For those not keeping track that was 10 rounds of actions I had.
Looked up constriction in the DB afterwards, apparently Blink isn't auto-escape, but does count as two escape attempts (Meaning I had tried to escape a grand total of 8 times (2 regular + 3 blinks) failing each time) and teleport *is* an auto-escape (apparently teleport doesn't kick in as quickly as I think it does, I have it in my head that it's 2 rounds or 3 rounds, but I guess sometimes it's 4 or more)
However the *other* escape is to blink away the thing constricting you...

Would've had to switch bows, but I could've done so in the time I had rather effectively, but no instead I have YASD and frustration.
Anyone recall if Blink has always been "two escape attempts" (And I've just always been lucky in the past) or if that was a change between when constriction was added and now that I just didn't know about?
