CIP Fire Elementalist Advice

I am a level 15 HeFE of Vehumet. Character attached.

I normally die with spellcasters early to something my spells just don't kill fast enough.
This game I am doing well and found some really nice randart artifacts.

A few questions:
What spells should I learn next? I have basically everything in books.
I only have 1 spell level and no scrolls of forget so getting even one more spell will be a bit slow for me.

I was thinking either firestorm, or a defensive spell like missile deflection.
Is haste or any other defensive spell a good idea?
What spells should I forget? Lightning bolt?

What armor and rings should I be wearing? ring of 3 int 3 dex and rF, vs ring of fire? I also have a ring with like 5 resists on it which I wear.

What armor should I wear, I have lots of good ones. rF rC robes, +5 int +2 dex robes, steam dragon armor for the GDR and AC, or rP rC rN robes?
Right now I am using the +5 int robes.

Should I use a shield, if so how big? I just found a +2 med shield of deflection and I am working on 15 shield skill. Does that sound smart?

My sword is -2, -3 but rC rN Str+3 stlth++, it seems awesome, any reason not to use it for the rest of the game? Are there any staffs that would help me more?

Are there any defensive skills I should work on before increasing my spellcasting more?
Fighting, stealth, traps, dodge? Not sure how high to raise these as I approach late game.

Oh should I bother trying to use a crystal ball of energy? My evocations is 1 but I could increase it. It seems really dangerous but maybe at level 27 it is a good idea?

I'd get Blink, Repel Missiles, Haste, Ring of Flames, Phase Shift, Fire storm, Controlled Blink in that approximate order if you have them all. Don't forget you can use obsolete spellbooks to forget spells, freeing up space.

your weapon has a few problems: falchions don't do much damage, and -2/-3 is even worse. its resistances don't seem very needed, a staff of fire would ba a great weapon, if you find one you'll want some evocations.

the robe of resistance or the steam dragon armour both seem ok (I would use robe of resistance, but I'm flip-flopping). in either case, use those enchant armour scrolls. Your ring choice is fine - at some point you may want the ring of rF instead of the ring of fire, watch out for cold weakness.

Do you have any other shields? reflection is more cute than useful. I'd stop training at 11 instead of 15, since until you prepare a proper weapon you won't care about melee penalties.

You want as much fighting and dodging as you can get.

Haste is not primarily a defensive spell, it increases your killing power by making you faster.

crystal balls can be good, in practise I always seem yo want non-Evocations skills first so I can only use it in the extended game.

Haste is always a good idea. Good utility spells I noticed include Summon Butterflies, Apportation, and Blink.

You can live without Fire Storm in a 3-rune game. For now, anyway, it can wait.

I would keep the sword for traveling with extra stealth, and switch to a staff of Wizardry or Fire before combat.

A shield is a good idea, but eventually try to replace Reflection with a resistance.

Great advice, I never heard of unlearning spells using old spell books. I have tons of books in my stash. I just looked around and figured out you can delete books to delete a known spell. That is good to know. Hundreds of games without knowing that.

I never swing my weapon, your reply implies I should be swinging a weapon once I get a good one. I suppose to save mana. I have just been running away when I think I don't have enough or kiting till I have enough. Maybe using wands.

Still alive and exploring vaults. I have one rune so far from snakes. I also cleared orcs but elves had a tough staircase down so I left it for later.
I cleared lair but not shoals or slime yet.

I found a staff of conjurations and a staff of fire. I am not sure which is better for me but I went with conjurations since it seems to help more spells.
I found a great nonrandart robe with of augmentation +4. +4 str int dex. I am considering swapping to robes of the archmage I found but I think I like the stats more.
I learned deflect missiles and blink and they are handy. With my shield of deflect missiles and the spell up ranged attacks are hilariously bad against me.

What is a good way to deal with the mutating flame creatures that swarmed and killed my last dude in zot? Should I learn an ice spell or rely on lightning bolt or airstrike?

I picked up some armor and rings incase you have advice on those.

I guess I am learning haste, ring of flames, firestorm next. I found controll tport but no control blink yet. And no phase shift except in a shop.

The mutating flame creatures sound like orbs of fire. You can use Fire Storm since it's partially non-resistable, or Orb of Destruction, or Earth magic (Iron Shot, Lehudib's Crystal Spear). They actually resist ice also (just not as much as fire), and with the penalty from training fire and ice you won't really want to make ice conjurations worthwhile. I believe airstrike won't really do enough damage, and Tornado is very expensive. They resist lightning as well. Haste, Ring of Flames (for resistance and enhancement), Fire Storm is a fine order to cast spells against them too :).

I would wear Archmagi over Augmentation. I can't see your jewellery options - in future it might be easier to use

The staff of conjurations may help a few spells more than fire, but staff of fire gives you rF and gives a melee damage boost (based on Evocations and Fire skills).
