[YASD] Yellow Drac EE - Use your consumables!

Got a random DrEE and figured I'd see what came of it. Not bad so far, but I'm kind of stuck. Lair 4->5 stairs down is wide open and blocked by a pack of death yaks and elephants. Lair stairs 3->4 has one death yak hanging out there. I was trying to grind some piety out to get my first book from Vehumet in the dungeon and then swamp. Should I do orc 1-3 instead?

Re: [CIP] Yellow Drac EE - Where to next

Orc:1-3 is worth a shot. As long as you don't run into too many high-level orcs at once, it's a lot of quick piety. Not having good crowd control yet may get problematic, but plain orcs die quickly.

Don't forget your breath weapon.
You fall off the wall. You have a feeling of ineptitude.

Do you have access to any other books? You can always use that rage cloak and beat the crap out of that one death yak.

Book of Fire which may be the first time I learn Dragon Form, starting EE book and the book of wizardry. I'm hoping I find something to train up charms because trying to learn Haste straight is a PITA.

I really didn't want to spend too much XP on Fire spells since I did that last game and was hoping to go more Ice this time around since that's what Veh gives more of.

You might consider training enough summoning for Summon Elemental; there's rock everywhere to summon EEs from, and they're quite good for dealing with HP-sack monsters.

Re: [CIP] Yellow Drac EE - Where to next

ONE death yak? You can take it. Just approach from an open area, with no monsters around. Hit Stoneskin at edge of line of sight, and Stone Arrow it to death. It is unlikely to reach you, and even if it gets close you can escape as long as you stay a single tile away. A pack of them is more difficult, of course, since you'd have to separate them before you can kill them successfully, but one should be no problem for you right now.

That said, Orc is an excellent destination for you right now. Stone Arrow will sort out any orc knights and giants for you, and you can run from high priests or sorcerors if you need to. Of course, if you catch them unaware with an escape route handy you're often better off two-shotting them with Stone Arrow. Once you've got Iron Shot from Vehumet's second gift there's very little that you need to worry about for quite some time.

I wouldn't bother with either fire or ice when they turn up. Earth alone is good enough for the entire game, particularly if you're playing Dragonform yellow draconian. Yellow draconians are probably the best Dragonform martial artists in the game, because not much resists acid attacks and this is one of the only ways to get it. I've actually been spending the last couple weeks trying to get a yellow draconian earth elementalist off the ground, but somehow it seems like I'm cursed to never draw yellow.

Re: [CIP] Yellow Drac EE - Where to next

Having gone through a whole mana bar running from that ONE death yak with stone arrow barely denting it, that's why I decided to run. Maybe I just got unlucky with the RNG? Anyhow, now I need higher damage since it's right next to the stairs and more than a few hits will kill me right quick. I know EE is powerful - it was my first win as posted recently. The downside of EE is that you have no multi-target spells other than either magma bolt or shatter (or LRD if you can either petrify or get mobs near a wall). Since I need to learn some multi-damage spells, I just had a DEFE that died in Geh:7 and I've never gotten an ice (or air but training everything at -4 the whole game doesn't sound that appetizing to me) guy off the ground, I figured I'd try that, at least as a backup.

What do you mean by "yellow dracs are the best dragonform martial artists?" I thought I only got acidic bite at XL14 which means that only aux unarmed will hit for acidic and even then, only when the bite procs.

Like I said, I'm going off second-hand information here. I've been trying to test it myself, but the RNG has not smiled on my efforts and granted me a yellow. Skepticism is warranted.

The acidic bite may run off a relatively weak auxiliary unarmed attack, but it's a flat-damage brand like electrocution and pain. And unlike electrocution and pain, very little resists it. Pan and Hell Lords have some resistance to almost everything, but no defense whatsoever against acid damage. And unarmed attacks are fast, so you'll get lots of chances to proc that damage, and unlike other fast weapons you've got the base power to overcome endgame AC even if your acidic bite doesn't proc.

Re: [CIP] Yellow Drac EE - Where to next

Now a YASD and an entirely avoidable one. Got put into a lot of tough situations and managed to avoid them through smart play (if I dare say so myself). Then played stupid when facing about a dozen yaks and one komodo dragon. Still playing smart, I quaffed a potion of speed, got to a choke point and was keeping them poisoned and mostly running away from me. Finally they're all dead, only the komodo dragon left. I'm low on health, but luckily I've got a healing wand with one charge left. Instead, I quaff a regular healing pot, then another (since I'm hasted) and just one more stone arrow should take him out. I never got to cast it because I was hit for 28 damage and only had 22 HP left. All my fault, all avoidable and now I'm super pissed at myself for pressing my luck instead of saving the character.

I guess it's time to start a new character but it's hard when you know that your own really bad decisions wiped out hours and hours of work.

Haha, yeah I know. As someone has said before me, the trick is knowing how to walk away with your pride intact and convince yourself you'll do better next time.

My Top List of stupid things I can remember:

1) Dying in Cocytus with 13 runes on a Minotaur of Tso because I went in without means of Levitation/Flight. (I played Blink roulette to travel from island to island). That was pure arrogance, and cost me my first possible all-rune game.
2) Engaging Gloorx Vloq on my Ghoul Fighter of Kiku (dispel undead really hurts). I had been used to owning him with living characters and that was quite stupid of me in general.
3) Engaging Cerebov twice on different HO melee characters (he's probably the most powerful unique in the game and I wasn't prepared correctly)

And you can add other stupid stuff like when I recently got a (+0,+9) ring of slaying and then died trying to kill a hill giant on D:8 or D:9 or something on a GhFi of Okawaru (should have popped hero prior to engagin but noooo I didn't cause I was thinking "Hey, I'm pwning everything with this ring on...")

Oh I do remember this very well and it makes me use Heroism prior to engaging when I see these mobs when I worship Okawaru. Makes things much better.

My story EXACTLY. I had already cleared Dis no probelm on my MiFi of TSO (bardiche). I played tele roulette on Cocytus 7 (never seen that map before, so I wasnt prepared), and eventually landed right in Antaeus's party... lost 220 HP in 3 turns.
