My First Victory Post!

Well, after around 2 years of playing this ridiculous game, and over 1,000 deaths, something "clicked" with this VpEn of Kiku, and rather than aiming for a 3-Rune win for my first go, I just kept pushing my luck... and somehow coming out on top, over and over again. I present to you, "Vladimir Tepes", my very first win in DCStone Soup... with 15 Runes, every Pandemonium and Hell Lord killed, as well as the Royal Jelly.

Voila.

Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup version 0.9.1 character file.

Re: My First Victory Post!

Done and done! I was honestly wondering if I should've pushed for Zig, too, but I couldn't find as much information on what to expect as I found on Hell and Pandemonium, and I was basically consulting CrawlWiki every five minutes when I did those. Pandemonium was actually kind of pathetic; out of Cerebov, Mnoleg, Lom Lobom, and Gloorx Vloorq, I opened all four like pillowcases.. but Cerebov survived, with about 20% health remaining, so that fight turned into a "Haunt 'em 3 times, Controlled Teleport out... Kiku-corpse Undead Army, Controlled 'Port back, Recall, Haunt, 'port out.. rinse, repeat". Hell was way tougher, but only because of Hell effects. I managed to backstab Asmodeus and Ereshkigal for insta-kills, but Antaeus took fooooorever (a sleeping Antaeus took a Skill 27 backstab for less than 40% of his HP... I'm guessing a lot of the massive damage I inflicted on Cerebov came from my dagger having a Freeze and +8 Slaying attached to it? Is that part of the damage multiplied by the stab.. ?), and Dispater and I just abjure'd the Hell out of each other, and I had to resort to burning magic potions and Blinking everywhere in his hallway, firing off around 6 Orbs of Destruction (he survived them all!), before swarming him with zombies. Doing all of that while being occasionally ganked by random Hell effects summoning reinforcements was a pain.

Comparably, though, Zot seemed kind of easy. I sneaked through a lot of it with invisibility, backstabbed numerous Moths, Liches, Draconians (idiots can't see invisi. whatsoever, apparently), and Orb Guardians.. swamped the final room with zombies and Haunts, abjured everything in sight, and Brute-Force'd my way to victory.

All in all, it was one Hell of a good time, and I'm ready to try for a melee build this time around.. beating the game with no defensive boosts to speak of, besides Bat Form and Run Away/Control'd Tele. to Safety and C-Blink, was uber-hard, but I found being evasive and sneaky was a more cost-effective means of defense.

WOOT! Good times! :D

I like

ring "Gamn" {cTele +Inv +Lev Str+2}

because you can just ditch 2 rings from your inventory.

What do you mean? I should've ditched Giriez, but I sort of forgot about it... but what else should I have dropped? I kept Wizardry for when I reaaaally needed Firestorm to not misfire.

Re: My First Victory Post!

Nice work, even nicer still to have your first also be a 15 runer. Not even I could kill Cerebov the first time I ever saw him. Just a little hint though, don't rely on the Crawl wiki too much. It's often outdated and applying misinformation from there could get you killed. Instead, use the Knowledge Bots as they are the most up to date. Look up 'badwiki' in the bots to see the community's opinion on the Crawl wiki :P .
