YASD: Curse you Cursed Whip!

So, I'm running around the dungeon one day and spy a transparent whip. Normally I can just equip it and not worry about the events that lead up to this YASD. Well, This series of unfortunate events starts a bit before that in an Ossuary filled with mummies. In order to uncurse all my gear I had to use all my remove curse scrolls and I never actually found any new ones (until the end of the story but that's getting ahead of myself). Anyways I pick up this whip no big deal but then I decide to equip it. Much to my pain it's cursed and to make matters worse MUT. Yea look at all those mutations the teleportisis took a long time to come but it did. The saving grace of the day (and the reason he lived so long) were dun dun dun dun javelins (and other throwing weapons). I found some javelins at like D:2 or so and started training with them so I ended up being decent with them enough to cover for my melee weapon being a complete load of hogwash. This story takes an ironic and hilarious turn in L:2 where I died. I find a scroll of remove curse finally. I was so happy when I saw it on my map I bout did a back flip even with all those horrible mutations. Anyways this scroll just happens to be right in front of the FFFFFFFFFFing swamp entrance which is packed with vampire mosquitos. So I do my best to fight them off and manage to snag the scroll but then one of the ones with like 10 health left (red zone) unrouted (i know that's not the proper term but it stopped running away and popped back up and tried to kill me and well suceeded) Anyways, This character must have been some kind of demon to survive so long with so many bad mutations and only 1 good one (I had a potion of mutation when I was pulling the oh sheet chug all your potions and hope one of these helps because things can't get much worse cord). Lesson of the day: Don't equip randarts without checking them for curses first, and always train throwing skill just in case (besides it's nice to throw a javelin in the back of a routing mob). In retrospect I could have followed Trog and spammed summons both his and my rod's but I don't really like trog so much since berzerk requires you to be satiated to use and that's kind of a pain for the guy that likes to run around and wait until he's near starving to pop a meat ration you'd think I was playing a vampire I like to stay hungry so much.

Yeah, I had a level 16 HuWz die to a +mut ring. So frustrating.

Heck, even if you do check for curses first, and do find the randart cursed, you know you're putting it on anyways. After all, good stuff can come cursed too. So a minmay said, skip the detect curse and just keep remove curse handy (detect curse is really only worth using on piles of ego weapons / armor, and non-artefact jewelry in my opinion).

Also, kudos on having a ridiculous ordeal with a cursed item. Good to know they're still relevant and causing interesting problems. =D
