YASD - My first Naga Berserker
For some reason, I've been trying to play Nagas lately.
Try as I might, though, I just couldn't seem to get my Naga Wizards and Venom Mages much farther than the Temple. I decided that perhaps a less magical approach was called for - the tried and true (at least for me) approach of the Berserker! I was a little skeptical at first. I thought to myself "Sure, Berserkers are by far the class I suck the least at, but can berserking make up for the Naga's godawful speed? And they're giving up even more in the magic department than most races who become Berserkers... ah, fuck it, let's rock!"
That game ended up going shockingly well!
Not only did I pass the Temple with no problems, I got practically within reach of the first rune before it all came crashing down. Everything was coming together so nicely, too. I'd scored a suit of MR leather armor, an early artifact ring of regeneration, the good mutations of sharp teeth and black scales (somehow cumulative with the scales Nagas already have!), and Trog even smiled upon me enough to gift me a really nice +4,+11 artifact battleaxe with chopping, +rF, and +rN! I think I've actually seen lamer weapons on victory posts, and it plus my obscene 28 strength were happily cleaving through pretty much everything in my path. Poison spit turned out to be a nice perk, and I'd also come to appreciate getting to start with resist poison and see invisible, rather than hunting for them like most races.
Sadly, while my death was caused by sheer bad luck to an extent - since WHEN does Mara spawn on Swamp:5? And did that fricking hydra HAVE to show up like five turns later?! - I must admit my own foolishness was to blame as well. In yet another classic case of underestimating my foe, I'd forgotten how tough Mara can be, and instead of summoning allies like I should have, I berserked right away, hoping to kill him before he could summon his infamous clones. Instead, I found myself facing my own powerful (and berserk) illusion while Mara was shrugging off enough of my titanic attacks to keep spanking me with a whip of draining... and then the seven-headed hydra stepped in. I didn't even get to fall out of berserking before they had my head on a pike.
All the same, I had more fun (and results) with this character than I expected. Naga Berserkers are definitely a combo I'll try again in the future.

As a final note, I am NOT looking forward to having to deal with this character's ghost. (As if Swamp:5 wasn't hard enough!)
