Decided to give Sif Muna a try when I saw her altar. Wanted to feel what it's like to have a non-malfunctioning crystal ball, but obviously I need to survive the early-mid game first.

How should I manage Sif Muna piety? With Vehument I just killed everything and piety went up, but for Sif Muna you gotta have at least one spellcasting school trained to gain piety. So do I just open one magic skill and let piety build? If I train multiple magic skills do I get my piety faster?

Also wondering if Ice+Air is good, considering HE aptitudes. Never tried offensive air magic spells, just occasional swiftness and repel missiles.

Got 2 runes and trying Depths now. Just as I feared, the Depths feel unfairly hard. Going down Depths 2 I was greeted with that disgusting 3 stairs and oklob plants put altogether vault. Glad there was an escape hatch I could use. Even still, I feel character at this level shouldn't have to deal with deep trolls and stone giants.

Decided to go Ice+air after all. I think having OOD would help really much against cold and air resistant enemies, but can't decide if I can forget any spells to make some room for that. Perhaps forget static discharge and summon ice beasts?

Also, should I train more fighting/evasion now? Training armor doesn't seem that effective with robe In fact, perhaps it's time to switch armor?

I would indeed get a troll/mottled armour and enchant those aux slots if ?ea is at all available because even with ozo's a +0 robe in the Depths and 123 hps is just asking for a lot of pain.
I would also look around for a good weapon and learn to swing it as it'll certainly help a lot as well and get more fighting, but regarding OOD I'm pretty sure things like mdart, static and freeze can go now. Ice beasts can probably still hold up and be useful if you're supporting them in melee against depths guys, doubly so if you can haste them, but you don't seem to have haste around and certainly your melee capabilities are very deficient.

A recent change moved Vaults back into the Dungeon and put a rune lock on it, so hopefully in the future you'll have more to do before hitting Depths.

Just cleared Slimes and got 4 runes. Slimes offered some nice goodies, but not sure if I have the xp to use them fully.

I'm thinking of switching my weapon and armor to those; would that be good? At least for the staff, it would provide really good resistance as well as being a excellent melee weapon. Not so sure about moon troll leather armor because of spirit..maybe I should just stick with my troll leather armor.

Just decided to go for 4 rune win. Maybe I didn't follow Sif Muga guide correctly (if such a thing does exist), but she didn't impress me that much. Channeling took quite a toll with my hunger rate, and I really missed Vehumet's abilities throughout the game.

Just decided to go for 4 rune win. Maybe I didn't follow Sif Muga guide correctly (if such a thing does exist), but she didn't impress me that much. Channeling took quite a toll with my hunger rate, and I really missed Vehumet's abilities throughout the game.

You might be more happy with Sif if you learned that Vehumet would not have gifted you Ice Storm this game. :) Sif guarantees access to important spells -- and often many useful spells mid-game.

You also get the flexibility that you can just learn spells whenever you want without caring about managing your spell levels, because you can unmemorize them with essentially no cost.

At full piety, you never get miscast effects, which means the only reason to get your failure rates down is because, for example, you don't want to waste the 9 MP and 1 turn when you fail to cast ice storm, rather than because you don't want to get blasted for 31 damage or caught in a freezing cloud at a bad time.

If you are conservative with your spell slots and always train spell skills to low spell failure rates before using them, then you are, to some degree, missing out on some of the power that Sif can give you.

Yeah I guess I'm the type of a person who needs to have every single spell down to less than 8% failure... I could cast ice storm with 34% failure rate, but I would've much preferred mp gain on kill and aid on destructive magic.

And with ice storm being not smite-like...guess I'm more suited to the classic Fire-Earth Vehument blasters.
