I'm attempting a 15 rune run at the moment and other than a close call with an early centaur things have been going well. I've found a nice short sword with see invisible and a staff of wizardry... the plan at the moment is to clear the hive and the lair with all my skills off. Once I have a large experience pool I'm going to clear the mines with melee to get my health up a bit.

Vehumet gifted me a nice book with fire spells so clearing the lair should be easy. Wish me luck!

I'm doing fine. The first few levels of a skill don't require much experience and it helps to have a little melee just in case.

I've cleared the mines, lair, and hive. My gear is a little messed up from acid though and I can't seem to find any enchant armor scrolls. I figure I might as well go for my first rune.

I died to a red centaur... sigh. It was such a great wizard too.

Centaurs seem to be my biggest problem when playing these builds. What can I do to help against them? Repel missiles didn't seem to do much.

You seem to have done a great job building that character - it's refreshing to see someone realize you can actually melee on dewz instead of IMBing rats for no reason. (and then complaining about not having fighting in the design forum)

However, you did invest in a couple spells that are crappy, at least for your build: teleport self and summon scorps. You shouldn't need either of those. You would've been better off using the slots for poison arrow, which most likely would've one-shot the yaktaur that killed you.

Mephitic Cloud should do the job. Repel Missiles should already be up, of course. Semi-controlled blinks help a whole lot, too, since you can choose to Blink out of range entirely or Blink close enough to force them into melee depending on the situation. Centaur warriors and yaktaur captains are probably a good reason to pull out your top-of-the-line spells for a good chunk of the game, regardless of hunger costs.

Honestly, though, I'd probably have cleared Snake 1-4 and Swamp 1-4 before I went and fooled around with the lower Dungeon. Snake and Swamp are basically all melee threats and poison, and you had both semi-controlled Blink and rPois.

Now that I look again, why don't you have any high-level attack spells prepared? That's kind of the exact opposite I'd expect from a Vehumet follower.

Here's my latest dump. I've rerolled Wizzie and gotten 2 runes so far (shoals and swamps)... clearing elf now. Any advice for the 3rd rune? When should I enter pan? What about hell? Also I've used the advice here so far and have invested in a high dammage spell (crystal spear).

Also I'm keeping my teleport spells. They're very helpful.

You cleared the shoals without Repel Missiles? I'm impressed.

Seems like you invested too much experience on earth magic. I personally think fire storm is much more important than crystal spear.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to tackle Elf:5 before memorizing Repel or Deflect Missile.
