Draconian Shield Monk- Of Okawaru

So I am a level 11 Green draconian with a:

+3 Swamp Dragon Armour
+3 elven large shield of protection (3AC)
+1 Cloak

9 fighting
14 unarmed
4 armor
9 dodging
8 shield
4 invocations

naturally 7 AC 18 Evasion.

With all my gear I have:
23--AC
10-EV
31-SH

So far my character is looking nothing like I was intending, but it has worked out so far. It is strange that unarmed is penalized by heavy armor, and shields, but that is my main attack source and it has become very accurate and powerful despite my equipment. Also since draconian are horrible with Armour I have devoted a lot of EXP just for the 4 Armour (50%) right now.

Anyone have any idea how much offensive power I am giving up with shields and armour? And late game would switching to a 1 hand weapon be any decent if I max unarmed? Or should I switch before hand? Also I have found some decent staves, I never hear anyone ever talk about a staff shield combo, but since this character is already about as backwards as they get, can anyone give me some help as to weapon transition?
