I'm at the point where I can go wherever I want and if things wake up, I just walk (bat) away and come back when everyone is asleep again. Orc:4 high priests who spot invis? Well, they fell asleep at the staircase when I came back. Demonic crawler woke all the spiders up? They conveniently lined up at the entrance asleep when I came back.

I got an early potion of EXP and robe of archmagi. That basically let me shortcut through the power-up curve when your hexes have low spellpower. If I don't stab it first time, I either dispel undead or pain poke it to death. Should those not be an option, I have 4 long blades to convert into extra muscle power. 3 +Str potions early on gives me the carrying capacity to comfortable tow along those swords. Eventually I should take off this buckler and juggle great swords if I want to continue down this route. It certainly was effective on Nikola, given Tukima weapons have rElec+++.

Stealth stabs are awesome when they work - 2 curse skulls went down like this, including the one that was camping the entrance to Crypt.

Confuse is a very useful "shut up" spell to use against guys who would otherwise yell out.

I'm playing a VpEn myself at the moment, loads of fun. I've managed to stab most uniques that I've encountered, including Erica, Harold, Nessos, and most fortunately Mara :) Sleeping right next to the stairs she (he? it?) was. Replace Tukima's Dance in your strategy with Shadow Creatures and you have what I'm doing. I wasn't quite as lucky with a robe of the archmagi, but a ring of ice kept my EH power up. I tend to prefer EH over confuse on most monsters, especially combined with invisibility. I'm not quite sure what to do with my skills though. Probably more stealth and I found a book of the tempests so I'm feeling air magic. Tornado for when a less subtle approach is needed ;)

Awesome on stabbing the curse skulls, that sure takes the pain out of dealing with them

Edit: What armour would you recommend without having a robe of the archmagi? I have steam and fire dragon armours available but I'm not sure if FDA would mess with spellcasting and stealth too much.

The generic answer to 'best light armour' is MDA. SDA is a good enough compromise if you get unlucky and never find an MDA. But then, FDA shouldn't mess with spellcasting much, it might hit stealth a bit but you can probably spare the hit. Go with FDA I guess, I might myself too if I don't find enough rF for the inevitable orbs of fire fights.

As per my quirk, I cleared Vestibule as soon as I could. Heck, i actually dived through D:20 to get to Hell ASAP. Then I went back to grab all the big weapons from Hall of Blades (it's free EXP for an invis stabber, especially one who has no food clock). Juggled 8 2h weapons, drank buff pots, hit haste and rushed Geryon. Since I wasn't invis, the other Vestibule residents yelled for Geryon. I didn't even have silence but Geryon never blew on his horn. He died that fast. The demon residents got cleaned up really fast whenever I wasn't resting up (for HP recovery or to wait for Tukima timers to expire - you do not want them to end while they're hovering over lava).

It's exhausting playing a stabber. With a blaster, summoner or fighter there's a clear concept of a 'buffer' - be that distance, army size or HP. But for a stabber it's all or nothing. Either you get to stab everything to oblivion or someone yells out and you have to retreat for a long time (unless you're a hybrid with an alternate killing method). The re-stab methods (EH, Petrify or other means) are for 1v1s, not for big parties. Well, I guess this is what Mass Confuse is for, but I didn't pick that up.

I lost a promising KoEn just last night or so. It had Tukima's and Silence, which did really good work on Nicola, Ilsiuw, the unique efreet, and the greater nagas in Snake:5. It had boots of running, a hat of magic resistance, tons of Enchant Armour scrolls (mostly used), and then died in Vaults to an ogre mage and his pack after getting a really long paralyze right before getting upstairs. Rrg.

So, uh, yeah -- Tukima's is a great help for enchanters. Combining it with silence is extra useful due to the way that both tend to help most against the high MR targets.

Gosh I messed up training from hell. A single shadow demon put an end to my Dis adventures, because I could not kill it fast enough and now it camps the entrance and can summon mass reinforcements whenever. Well ok, I can just tele away, call up my badass Tukima weapons and then my iron dragon simulacra. But I have no reason to do that yet, so back to D clearing for me. Well, Cocytus is the alternate option at least.

It turned out I outright forgot that Lair:8 wasn't completed yet. Only reason I went back there was because I decided to go stabbing in Slime. Didn't suffer any equipment damage despite the somewhat messy fighting that occasionally happened there. Gave up by Slime:3 though, that place is very stab unfriendly unless you have infinite Dig.

I'm about halfway through the Vaults:5 welcome party. Yes, I'm waiting for them to go to sleep again, I did a bit of stairdancing but lost some HP so I left them to get bored again. Speaking of which, Aizul's death was hilarious: he did an excellent job of denying me a stab when I only had to sneak up 3 tiles. Then when I came back thousands of turns later, he was asleep right around the corner: i.e. 0 turns between spotting him and stabbing him.

Elf:3 was done in a completely opposite manner: LRD spam. The treasure room even had golems to serve as handy explosives in addition to the skeletons I was flinging around. Kiku provided infinite mana for the mana-intensive operation. Finally found a book with blink in there.

It's my personal vice to always clear Vestibule as soon as I hit D:21 and then go rampage in Dis if I'm serving Kiku and have Simulacrum. I actually consider Dis in this fashion to be easier than the rest of D, provided I have appropriate equipment. I completely screwed up on this character though, because I didn't generate iron dragon simulacra immediately (got distracted with the stabbing game). I'll need to blast through with 8 Tukima 2h weapons (and preferably mass abj as well) to farm Dis again. Thankfully, Cocytus is almost as accessible for a bloodless vampire of Kiku.

Some few thousand turns should do it, yeah. Pretty much by the time I'm done with D and had a harvest from Cocytus. Perhaps sooner given how many turns I spend waiting for contamination to wear off. Much as I'm glad I don't have to care about glow-induced mutations, I can't be invisible if I'm glowing.

So, contam items in trunk only make you glow when you unequip them. Except turning into a bat apparently counts as 'unequipping'. This is pretty much trivial for a bloodless vampire but I don't think it's intended behaviour.

A treasure trove wanted a +3 FDA. I went back to Crypt:3 where I'd ditched Margery and stabbed her. She was still alive with a sliver of HP. Wand of Cold. The trove gave me armour, which solved my rF problem: I now wear Salamander hide (rF++ leather armour) so it doesn't interfere with my stealth as much as FDA would (and without the rC- part). I also have a cloak to provide more rF if I ever want it.

I broke through the barricade at Dis and farmed there a bit. Then realised that for a squishy vampire, Cocytus is actually easier because Dis has tormentors and Hell effects that unavoidably damage you (i.e. I can't stay bloodless, as much as I want to). Cocytus only has reapers and ice fiends as threats, which get neutralised with the Kiku army.

Mara said hi in Vaults:5. I invited him over to the staircase then ditched him. He got bored and fell asleep when I came back. Thus the mighty lord of illusions died due to boredom. The quadrants were isolated enough that even if I put on a metal concert in one of them, nobody could hear me in the other quadrants. Thus I defeated gold dragons that woke up on me.

Did Tomb because I could. The slow way to breach the outer wall: LRD spam. Dispel Undead got me through most hazards, then I apported the gold rune and hid in one of the treasure rooms, where I found this: +10,+7 great sword "Erhubub" {freeze, rF- rC++ rN+ MR SInv}. An excellent Tukima partner. With the -cTele gone as I had the rune, I spammed my blink scrolls to escape when I was discovered on the way out of that room (I didn't kill everything to get the rune afterall).

I can see this character going to extended with the Kiku + Tukima army, Kiku blood and Earth-based nukes/ninja. I don't think I'll bother though, I want to try out the new Vehumet soon so I'm going to Zot and just ascend afterwards. Unlike my previous stabber (an SpSt from a couple years ago), I have very ample means of killing things without having to stab. Time to learn shadow creatures.

Some thousands of turns. It basically translates to "go do some other branch for now, come back when you lose the stealth game over there". At one point, I was simultaneously making progress on Spider, Swamp, Vaults, D and Crypt all at once because I was waiting on things to fall asleep again. The long travel distance between Lair and Vaults helps with the long wait time.

Zot:2 annoyingly woke up so I had to rely on LRD/army spam while resting in Zot:3 (which died to invis/passwall stab just fine).

Zot:5 was about Tukima + Simulacra + Skeletons + Shadow Creatures. That last one would mean every badass you'd see in Zot:1~4 all in one place. Angry gold dragon, angry draconian squad, curse toe, electric golem, ghost moth, moth of wrath... I kept throwing in reinforcements while relying on sub.blood Kiku delivery to pay the maintenance fees. Could have drank all those potions I had but I reserved them for emergencies and well, I didn't get such an emergency. Ok I had to run away once because my army was getting chewed down but I only needed haste for that.

The orb run had me abandon my awesome Tukima weapons as I was not going to head back to apport them back into my collection. Some mighty fine weapons were in there, including 3 vampiric endgame-worthy weapons and an exec axe of flame, as well as that randart great sword I posted above.

I've played a few vampires, and the Hell sub-branches are like, last on my list of, "favorite places to visit".

Kiku corpse delivery. Effectively it removes the blood clock as you can refill your blood bottles at any convenient time of your choosing. Ask Kiku for corpses in Dis and you get 2~7 deliveries that are guaranteed to be iron dragon corpses. Each of those corpses turns into 1 skeleton + 1~8 simulacra of a monster that hits pretty hard. Until you get to floor 7, the only 1s demons you meet are those summoned by hell effects (or in minivaults). Such Hell reinforcements wait for 1 action from you and appear nearby you. That means they start partially surrounded by your big army and your army gets 1 free turn to smack them about, so it's not unusual for them to die before they ever do anything.

Similarly, in Cocytus Kiku exclusively gives you ice dragon corpses and for Tartarus, he delivers shadow dragon corpses. Even without having to beg him for lots of corpses, D:22->27 is a nice stock of badass meat with a mobile portal to quickly bring it to Hell before it rots.

Okay, so then you must also depend on having enough potions of restore ability, in order to counteract the stat drains from hell effects?
Sometimes I'll get hit with back-to-back drains in the same stat (usually strength), and that means I need to exit. Other times, I'll need a potion just to find the 7th level, and then another just before I meet the hell lord / snatch the rune. That means like 8x potions for all the four runes (maybe 6x potions if I'm lucky).

Myself, I have dipped into Cocytus for blood refills, on occasion, in hopes of finding an ice dragon near the portal. But to actually sit - and soak in experience... That takes guts.

I did say "appropriate equipment". That includes 2x sust.ab rings. Since it's my army doing most of the fighting, I don't need any of the good rings on by default as a bloodless vampire.
