YAVP: OgAK - 5 runes - First Ascent
It's been a love-hate relationship with Ogres for the last couple of weeks, but I finally did it. After a few interesting and frustrating deaths on my OgIE I decided to play around with AK for awhile again. I decided that if I narrowed my spell focus I wouldn't need Ashenzari's power boost and I wanted to get better acquainted with the Abyss.
Who would have thought that winning a computer game could feel this good:
There isn't too much interesting to report - I wanted to try a few branches that I hadn't tried before and found that they were easier than I thought they would be. This was my first delve into Abyss:3 and Slime Pits and didn't have too many problems so I went for those runes too. Distortion saved me from a couple of close calls so in spite of the annoying blinks of ranged monsters I am glad I went for it. For every few times I blinked a centaur away from me, I had a very well timed banish to make my life a lot easier.
It was a challenge trying to figure out what combination of statue form and haste was best in every encounter. I think I redefined the term "glass cannon" with this character. I think I was more like a paper mache cannon. By the end, I had only 10 ac and 10 ev and I had been going with less than that for quite some time. 350 hp (over 400 in statue form) goes a long way to help though. I also forgot to train dodging until I began ascent, but I don't think it mattered too much.
I had no idea what ascent was like since I avoided spoilers for the most part. However, I was sure that some bad stuff was bound to happen so I was pretty well prepared for it.
I normally avoid mutations like the plague, because I am terrified of getting some of the nasty bad ones. I would like to try a character that goes for lots of mutations and worships Jivya. I'm thinking of a SEMo (I still play .12). Is there any other kind of character that is fun or interesting to play like this?

There isn't too much interesting to report - I wanted to try a few branches that I hadn't tried before and found that they were easier than I thought they would be. This was my first delve into Abyss:3 and Slime Pits and didn't have too many problems so I went for those runes too. Distortion saved me from a couple of close calls so in spite of the annoying blinks of ranged monsters I am glad I went for it. For every few times I blinked a centaur away from me, I had a very well timed banish to make my life a lot easier.
It was a challenge trying to figure out what combination of statue form and haste was best in every encounter. I think I redefined the term "glass cannon" with this character. I think I was more like a paper mache cannon. By the end, I had only 10 ac and 10 ev and I had been going with less than that for quite some time. 350 hp (over 400 in statue form) goes a long way to help though. I also forgot to train dodging until I began ascent, but I don't think it mattered too much.
I had no idea what ascent was like since I avoided spoilers for the most part. However, I was sure that some bad stuff was bound to happen so I was pretty well prepared for it.
I normally avoid mutations like the plague, because I am terrified of getting some of the nasty bad ones. I would like to try a character that goes for lots of mutations and worships Jivya. I'm thinking of a SEMo (I still play .12). Is there any other kind of character that is fun or interesting to play like this?
