Are different Thank buttons possible?

One of the reasons that the Thank button has been disabled actually (-> Thanking Now Restricted to OPs) seems to be the fact that there are several intentions for pressing the button. I wouldn't like to discuss any kind of abuse (you can't prevent that anyway) but the question is: are several different buttons possible or could they be implemented?

At the end of a post it usually looks like
[Thank] [Quote] [!] [^]

Could this be expanded to something like the following?
[Thanks for advice] [Thanks for effort] [I agree] [Thanks for joke] [Quote] [!] [^]

This could result in a message like

For this message the author posterA has received thanks:
advice:2 - posterX, posterY
effort:
agree:1 - posterZ
joke:

This would add 4 or 5 posts. The expansion of a topic by several (probably short) posts is one of the problems which are caused by removing the Thank button.

I think what Sar means is it would be too easy to use the "thanks for joke/haha" in sarcastic and/or mean ways. Of course any version of thanking can be used sarcastically but giving people an overt option to laugh at one another is probably bad.

If it were possible to create multiple forms of thanking, just "I agree" or "This is a significant contribution" is better.

Re: Are different Thank buttons possible?

While I agree that multiple kinds of "Thank" might be useful*, it's not possible without changing our phpbb installation in ways that are very unlikely to happen.

* Or it might be worse. This is something people have asked for forever on Facebook, and they've only recently rolled it out -- so it's probably not super clear-cut how many and which options should exist.

I thought so. However, I wanted to ask.

In the meantime I doubt that several thank buttons would be a useful idea. So from my point of view this topic is more or less closed.

Compromise - multiple thank buttons that all do the same thing.
