Take the staircase to your left upstairs, kill the two yaks that come up with you, rest up fully, go invisible, call a brother in arms (or two if you get a lame bro), take them downstairs, berserk, beat the enemies up and be sure not to be in the basilisk's line of fire. Maybe this is a bad plan but...

Trolls are objectively (well, I'm not in a position to say objectively, but the blue-names are if any care to confirm or deny this) one of the strongest species in the game, they do not need a buff. If they seem underpowered to you, my guess is you are wasting experience on throwing and not training...

Stand away from water. Throw dart over submerged thing so it unsubmerges. Damage it with something (conjuration, polearm, whatever). Rinse and repeat. I guess you play casters/Mu mostly or other characters who are weak early and become stronger later. Try TrMo and let me know if you still think late game is easier than pre-Lair ;) Book backgrounds are not particularly weak early...in fact I'm pretty sure DECj is one of the most guaranteed D:1 sur...

I'm sure you realize it's much better to not get INTO these situations, but as for getting out, I'd probably use speed, tele, curing, heal wounds? Then again tele is pretty bad on an unexplored level...idk this looks really horrible. Does a scroll of blink break constriction? If so I'd probably blin...

Last time I saw Asmodeus he summoned. There were also brimstone fiends accompanying him that were real, which should definitely be killed before you try anything.
I usually "kill" hell lords by using haste, walking to the rune, picking up the rune, and then teleporting.

Banishment isn't smite targeting, so if you can put something between you and the banisher, it can't banish you. Brothers in arms hurts your piety but it will do the trick.

1. Regarding minmay: If there are strong feelings we'd probably have to put it to a formal public poll. How about giving staves a damage bonus, but only if there's at least one space adjacent to both the player and the target, i.e. not in corridors and not when you're crowded: You take a long hard swing with your staff, but for that you need space. I only raise INT when I care about spell power. I only care about spell power when I use conjurations, hexes, summonings, or elemental magic. Also if INT is really low I might raise it to avoid stat death.

I did once, on a SpEn who branched into ice magic for ozo's and bolt of cold. Metabolic englaciation would usually slow stone giants in 2 or 3 casts but it seemed like just shooting bolt of cold worked better. The advantage of metabolic englaciation was its range and radius.
