It's difficult to tell without you posting a morgue file since it depends so much on the geography. But... the most obvious answer seems to be "find another down staircase and go down there, then find a staircase down to level 4 and take him out later".

With rC- rF-? I'm not sure any character of mine would even consider wearing these footrags. Make it -2 and lose the resist maluses, and it's a more viable decision.

My biggest suggestion is to avoid spoilering the results of your let's plays - it makes it much less exciting to watch a let's play video when I know the result anyways.
