Re: Powered by Death and Gozag

That tension will be going away -- it is sad to take away a competing use of a scarce resource, but given the prevalence (or lack thereof) of DsNe builds I'm not really concerned.

Re: Feedback on Gozag design

Does anyone call food merchants with Gozag? What circumstances do you do so?

I'm trying out some reworks of Gozag's call merchant that don't give you so much control over shop type, wondering if it'll be a problem.

Re: Powered by Death and Gozag

OK, I've implemented the idea ion_frigate (and others) had: removing the dependence on corpses. https://github.com/alexjurkiewicz/crawl-ref/commits/pbd-reform With this patch, PbD works like a poor man's stacking buff. On kill, you receive (or refresh the duration) of your Powered by Death buff. The...

Re: Feedback on Gozag design

I'm working on further Gozag improvements, specifically to Potion petition, which I think is the core of current G's gameplay. Here they are, I'd welcome comments (game balance here, technical on the PR): https://github.com/crawl/crawl/pull/11 Regarding BobIsDead's ideas, I don't plan to implement a...

Re: Powered by Death and Gozag

Alternately, is there any reason PbD needs to use corpses at all? It seems like 'regen on kills' is just as interesting, and less likely to be prone to scummy tactics. If people don't want to buff the mutation, it could be confined to only work on natural monsters, with the regen granted prorated t...

Re: Powered by Death and Gozag

You couldn't cheat the system by not picking up gold. The effect only lasts for a short time. It ends while the corpses are still on the ground. i don't see the problem with "gold doesn't expire", the mutation only works for a certain amount of turns for each given corpse (increases with ...

Powered by Death and Gozag

Gozag turns corpses into gold. Powered by Death gives x turns of regeneration when in LoS of corpses (stacks with number of corpses). These two ideas don't work well together. Right now, PbD does nothing for Gozagites, and I think it would be nice to change this. It's not very cool to start worshipp...

Re: Make >mindelay weapon skill more important

Good points. You're right that my proposal is still non-linear. The beakpoints are less severe than the current design, but it's not much better. Perhaps the right place to start is by describing what dps curves are desired and reverse engineering a formula. Here's a basic approach, based on a few s...

Make >mindelay weapon skill more important

For meleedudes, the general 'best practice' recommendation is to train weapon skill to mindelay and then ignore training it further until lategame. This is because weapon skill gives massive dps benefit below mindelay but only minor benefit above. I think there are several problems in this area: 1. ...

I guess that's a few points: 1. No link to http://crawl.develz.org/wordpress. This is intentional, http://crawl.develz.org/wordpress/ is the old homepage that has been replaced, and it will soon(er or later) vanish 2. The current division between "news" and "dev blog" should be k...

As the person behind 99% of the new design, sorry #notsorry ;). Basically what neil said -- the focus is much more on new players than existing ones, who are expected to know where to go anyway. My big inspirations were game sites like Hearthstone , Cities: Skylines and so on, where the emphasis is ...

Re: Screenshots wanted for DCSS website relaunch

No offline tiles allowed? It's difficult to set up interesting screenshots in online tiles since most people there can't use wizmode and have to play badly (not to mention invest a lot of time) to do it... I'm mostly concerned with showing graphics that aren't in online tiles (eg unique names). If ...

Re: I think crawl need a new title other than "stone soup".

As a random member of the community, I've had three patches committed to DCSS. If you include changes to the webtiles server-specific code, that number is closer to fifty. It's true the devs won't accept any patch, only ones they think are good ideas. If they don't like you/your idea, it will be har...

Re: Idea: a "generic character ghost" (XL=1) in early game

1) Ghosts of myself are boring, and 2) I'd expect most new offline players to not reset their name often. So, 3) perhaps don't generate ghosts of the same name as the current player. PS, It would be cool if there were a few "dev ghosts", ie hardcoded uniqs. DCSS's theme is suprisingly po-f...

Yep, it seems people value two things when picking a class: a) interesting mechanics and b) kick ass melee skills. Look at the top 5 races: Ds (a & b), Mi (b), Gr (b), Op (a), finally DE are next as the prototypical squishy mage with neither.
