Re: Tutorial video series

I've been working on the white noise, Magipi. When I was streaming my viewers didn't seem to mind too much but now that I'm listening to it myself, yeah, it's pretty bad. The fact that it goes away when I speak is somewhat strange. Hopefully I can improve the issue for my next video. Thanks for brin...

Tutorial video series

Hello everyone! I'm recording a Minotaur Berserker game to illustrate some basic tactics and strategy for newer players. As I record I am also streaming at http://twitch.tv/n1000 (feel free to join in and ask any questions/criticize my play!) I've just uploaded the first video, in which we explore t...

Re: Proposal: Make monster mer* more gender-equitable

I would suggest assuming that other arguing parties are sincere and instead of attacking them for being unwilling or unable to do something, try to make your own points more clearly.

This applies to more than one person involved!

Thanks for this post, ackack. I appreciate your compiling many of the complaints which have been expressed on irc. My post is not meant to be a rebuttal, but rather an alternative perspective on the monster in question. After reviewing a small selection of tvs from recent swamp deaths, discussing sp...

Re: Buff unrandarts

My problem with unrands is that they generally spawn too late. Zong is great if you find it early enough that skilling into Long Blades makes sense, but I'm not gonna ignore the 20+ points I have in some other combat skill if I find it in the V:5 loot. It might be worth weighting item placement so ...

Yeah...it's a large shield but I figure for a small minority of characters it might fit? I was on the fence regarding that one.

The new robe of Folly definitely fits

Re: Buff unrandarts

I remember reading that unrand equipment was supposed to be powerful but also have a big trade-off. People (including minmay) have noted that this isn't the case for most of these items at all. Most of these items are either very strong or completely worthless. I think that Zonguldrok is one of the ...

I don't think fixedarts should necessarily be the strongest weapon of their type you're likely to find in a game, but it's true that many of them are quite weak. I disagree with you on a few of these: Curses: This is a very powerful weapon. It has a massive enchantment and the necromancy miscasts ef...

Re: KoBe (still of Trog) - how should I take on V:5

I don't think you need rMut or rN for Zot at all, especially on a character that's this strong. All I'd want is rF++, the ability to haste more than twice, and ideally a couple of might potions. Turn off stabbing, short blades, and probably evocations. Raising your other skills will benefit you more...

Re: KoBe (still of Trog) - how should I take on V:5

1) What do you mean "still of Trog"? Why wouldn't you be?

2) It is not common consensus to stairdance V:$ with MiBe at all. Sure it works okay a lot of the time but walking to the edge is usually better.

Since DD don't regenerate it's typically a good idea to choose a good who offers some form of healing. Makhleb would have been a stronger choice for this character.

I like the idea of making heroism activate through attacks in combat. It has been pointed out that this would both reduce tedium. It would also make it a unique power among what gods currently offer. Ramping up on successful attacks sounds good. How about it also activates when you take damage, like...

Sorry about your death ddubois. SpEn is a very powerful combo but so squishy that you can easily be taken from full HP to near-death in a single turn even if you're doing most things right. If you're speedrunning, you've got to take these sudden bursts of damage (and this sort of death) as part of t...

Your stat loss is from the deterioration 1 mutation. It's ok to raise str, too. 6 str is really annoying. Getting haste and dmsl is a fantastic idea, XL 15 seems like a fine time to get those excellent charms. I would spend some time training a bit of dodging first, though. You also might consider g...

I wouldn't train more armour since you have MDA. Train so ice storm is better. CBOE is nice if you're going to 15 rune, otherwise get more invocations after ice storm is good. I like to use clarity with cboe but some people don't find it necessary. Don't think about getting a bigger shield. Stealth ...

I don't really see a need for fire magic. I would train spellcasting to get the hunger down on iron shot and LRD, and to get some spell levels so you can learn the basic set of charms that everyone wants. Don't train more transmutations unless you really want to be a dragon. On the off chance that y...

The previous SEMO high score was utterly terrible: "3501. splat the Farming Grand Master (L27 SEMo), worshipper of Makhleb, mangled by an Ice Fiend in Pandemonium on 2008-07-09, with 3006134 points after 232962 turns and 17:31:55." Due to that, and the fact that SEMO is an apparently decen...
