#4 feels like a different flavor of negative mutation. And, as I hate getting mutated more than just about anything in crawl (even if it's a trivial -1 str), I don't want it. #3 might be good, but I can only see it working if they cause semi-permanent effects. While in dragon form, your EV gets destroyed and the XP you spend on dodging largely goes to waste. I didn't train it much at all for my dragon all-rune game.

^that's true, it could be worded better. 0 is the normal learning rate, and just so happens to be (for the most part) the human learning rate. It makes more sense to compare aptitudes to themselves, than to compare them to humans.

Doesn't this mean that spellcasting is slightly cheaper to raise now, and stealth/invo/evo slightly more expensive? Because the old hidden penalties didn't quite match up with an even aptitude level.

Either way, I dig this change, and hope it makes it into .11.

I've been wanting to play the Souls games for so long, but stopped buying/playing consoles years ago. This game is really really good so far.

Be warned that it's essentially unplayable without a gamepad.

I double checked Hacker's and yeah, every key that crawl is supposed to understand is being read correctly except `, which is a blank. I even reinstalled the app and power cycled, because that's what one does when one tests things. IDE still works outside of the ctrl key. OK, I'll use my GIMP skills...

First off, if you're using a weapon, unarmed combat does not help you in any way. It doesn't improve your headbutts or auxiliary attacks. For future characters, don't train it. It's getting there. I spot checked every key on Hacker's and I think they all work except `, which should be a 'repeat last action' command. Funny thing is, ` works on Terminal IDE's keyboard. I strongly encourage you to set your skill training to manual, and only train 1-2 skills at a time. Automatic training leaves your skills too spread out, and it ends up training/overtraining skills you don't want (like your stabbing, stealth, and poison).

Crawl is random enough that I don't believe guides are very helpful. It's infinitely more useful to learn the mechanics of the game, so one can react intelligently to situations as the RNG presents them.

Not sure I like that - shoals has sea snakes, swamp has swamp drakes and swamp dragons. Spider is often waterlogged. The branches overlap each other enough that I believe we'd have more variety if any 2 were picked, as opposed to 1 of 2 and 1 of 2.

Spell power is more heavily weighted on spell schools than it is on spellcasting and int. Your bolts of cold will be hitting harder in scenario (2).

If the target is a ghost or spectral, they don't have a body, so there's nothing for the sticky flame to stick to. But you can kill them by hitting them with any number of other solid item. Sticky flame works just fine on zombies and skeletons.

Does it make sense? Not really.

Brogue has been ported to android. Check the google store. It's not very playable (yet) without an external keyboard, and the asking price is $2, but it's brogue. On a phone. Kinda neat.
