AC is all but irrelevant to Spriggans (who have the best EV in the game)... getting rid of those mutations will help you more than having +4 AC. And yes, I would lose the hat now that you've got another source of poison resistance.

I don't know if you could possibly ever upgrade strength enough to melee as a bat. Their bite attack is pretty pathetic (as natural weapons go), and you don't get any bonuses from any gear but amulets to help with it. And no, you won't have any magic in bat form, either. Thankfully it's not a Hive boss. Spriggan Berserkers face enough challenges without that monster guarding one of the best food sources in the game! Spriggans can cultivate ranged attacks rather easily - they get more mileage out of slings than most races. That's actually very good, as they don't have enough weight allowance to carry around a huge pile of wands (or at least not as huge as other Berserkers). Keep working on your stealth/stabbing,...

It's possible one of your demonic guardians killed him. The greater demons in particular are infamous for summoning whole armies of other demons, and Executioners (while not summoners) can fit in several actions to the average character's one. Wizlabs can take several different forms, but are generally not all that bad (at least at your level). They can have decent treasure, too. Most importantly, I have yet to see a Wizlab that didn't have its exit right next to its entrance. Go for it.

It's also useful to know that a specific ghost is only ever generated once. No other character will see it again. So just running away from a ghost is just as good as killing it, as far as your future characters are concerned.

I know some people here love mutation roulette, but you should avoid deliberately mutating any character you care about. An XL19 demon-whipping wizard with your spell list shouldn't be having much trouble with Ugly Things (even Very Ugly Things).

I think the first message (the one announcing you're on a level with a Labyrinth portal) always says "distant" by default. It's only the messages AFTER that where it starts indicating how close the portal is.

Watch out for Spriggan Druids, too. If you see one, kill it or get out of the forest as fast as you can. Because it will cast Animate Trees, causing you to be completely ass-raped if you are still surrounded by tree tiles.
