Just a little clarification: you can Id most of the jewellery, which doesn't auto-id on equip, through actions that reveal their property. For example, casting an ice-school spell identifies ring of fire/ice, teleporting identifies ring of c-tele and so on... Normally I don't find really important ...

My question: when fighting the Royal Jelly, does it make a difference (in terms of number of jellies spawned) whether you do the damage in a few big hits or lots of less damaging hits? Yes, it's great. There's been many times when I descended a staircase into a sticky situation, only to see a nice item like ?blinking or a randart sitting a few tiles away. If I had apportation I would be able to apport the item and then retreat upwards.

You have a decent chance at heal wounds and a very good chance at the staff of cold. I'm trying to get a staff of cold for my evocations specialist, and I just bought a scroll of acquirement. I have 15 Evocations and 13 Ice Magic (my 2 highest magic skills). Once I raise Ice Magic to 16 and then acquire staff, does that guarantee me a staff of cold?

If you're a shield user, maybe. But for 2H I think +4,+12 vorpal glaive bests any vanilla bardiche you're likely to get.

The armour is nice but you'll want to upgrade to plate eventually for the better AC. That crossbow is also nice, but only for now when your ranged accuracy isn't that good. Later on you'll definitely want to upgrade to maybe a vorpal +9,+9 crossbow for damage.

The only really good piece of loot I ever, EVER got from Lair:8. It was from the Yak ending, which, aside from the elephant ending, seems to be the only Lair:8 ending that gives items better than your average dungeon crap.

The one time I met the Lernaean was on a HaGl with M&F specialization. I took up a flaming scimitar (0 skill in long blades!) and with the simple Heroism + ?tele combo x5 I was able to chop of all heads.

I don't think swiftness gives extra speed from flight anymore. I've found pale draconian to be my favorite. I've only gotten pale once out of ~50 draconian games at level 7+, but it was stupidly powerful. I eventually took the pale DrGl to 14 runes but died to Cerebov becausenof my excessive hubris....

If you can't find any downstairs in Zot, be prepared to find them bunched together in a smallish room... filled with Oklobs, Burning Bushes, OCS's, and Ice Statues. Like Zot Defense except they're fighting YOU. Even easier if you manage to teleport at the end and do it "backward", this way...
